There is a difference in having your bid award canceled and not actually getting an award because you couldn't cause an excess in an FDA. Two completely different animals.

Sorry for the thread creep, but why is it always so d@%n difficult to find information on the ALPA website?!? There is not enough information available on the excess bid/FDA bid as it is, and what there is available is hidden away!

Is the union unable to hire a web designer who could simplify the site and actually make it user-friendly for their customers - us? The site wins my "worst website on the web" award. And yes, I have talked to my block rep about it.

OK, rant over.

Unless you're using last year's seniority numbers (because that's the last time a seniority list breakdown has been published) I think the real number will be about 2300. I'm at 2400, and unless a miracle happens, I won't be holding WB CA.

This is the golden statement to me. If every eligible bidder is awarded HKG, then by default no one is "denied" the award. Therefore, there is no basis for passover pay. I believe 9-01 opens HKG captain to everyone who can hold it. On the final round they excess the all but the senior 69 bidders. This is the only way I see to stop the passover pay. We'll see on Thursday.

BTW, it was Section 24.C.6.c.

Another dynamic in this whole process is the bid-to-relieve priviledge. If they award HKG captain to everyone who can hold it and declare an excess on the last round, then anyone on the list can bid-to-relieve that excess. So it may not be the senior 69 bidders that retain their awards. It may not even be close. Many of the senior captains in HKG may decide to leave and go to the 777 for example. Injecting that element of uncertainty would be a genius move by the company. There would be no gamblers because the whole scenario would eliminate the possibilty of any passover pay.

got a question that someone asked me today.

If a nugget was awarded a 72 SO slot, does he have to complete training before he can be furloughed?

don't mean for it to sound so callous, but substitute junior 757F/o or HKG FO and ask the same question.

do they have to be put through training first?

Excerpts from another thread.....

Jumbo Pilot writes:

If they furlough the nuggets in place right now. (or after the excess) added .. and all of those junior to them as per the CBA... How are they going to fill/fly the 27FO and 27SO trips?

I think there has to be a great deal of training before the furloughs happen.

------
... when a pilot is excessed they are trained in ... inverse seniority order. So if a nugget is excessed from ANC to 27FM and an Airbus FO is excessed to the same seat; the Nugget from ANC would have to be trained first since the all the Nuggets (I believe) are junior to the Airbus FOs in MEM. And if the company wanted to furlough the nuggets before the training, then they run into the same problems I discussed before about not being able to staff the FO and SO trips on the 27 in the interim.

--------

So to answer the question.. yes they can furlough before training.. but... the 727 will be effectively grounded.

That's my take on it.

Here's an idea I heard yesterday . . . or the day before. Everybody bid their own seat at 100%. 'Course there will be the few that will consider this their last chance for an upgrade, but if you want to throw a wrench into the gears of this highly tuned AOC machinery so expertly run by PC, just bid to stay where you are.

I bet it's more than a few. 12 senior 727 first officers bid to the left seat on 8-02. I'm guessing 20-30 on the Bus.
