This has happened before. Just chill and wait - it's not always bad news.
They don't, the IPA instructor ranks really were decimated. Gonna take awhile to reconstitute, as it is, the supes will be doing alot of the school house stuff and see few IPA in the 8 program. Hopefully, some IPA folks apply for these jobs. (long term interest to IPA)
Off to bid my displacement downbid class date.......

Salty, so do you still think no furlough? That's what I am thinking but some people are telling me to knock it off; that I'm way too optimistic...

I have a strong feeling they'll be invoking the "or pay in lieu thereof" language. So with my furlough letter will be a check for 3 months' pay and no prior notice. Hopefully they'll put an advisement on my line before I commute to work. (If not, I might find out about the furlough when an off-line carrier tells me I'm NOT listed in CASS)!

Giving 90 days is ridiculous -- furloughees will burn all our sick time (since they're not gonna buy our sick time out before the furlough, may as well use those 90 days to look for a job) and that's going to make the open time ban even more difficult to deal with. My guess would be: they'll just plan on everybody going out on a certain day by stacking the bid period with more reserve lines than usual to cover open time ban and not announce that plan until they pull the trigger. That will happen after most of the training for the 'critical' seats is accomplished, so what, early- to mid-summer?

Bingo - I try to have a glass is half full outlook but the way this displacement bid and training bid was handled has been very telling. JMO but I think the writing is on the wall.

The way I see it is there is still no plans to furlough, but the gun is loaded and trigger is cocked. We are just waiting to see if anyone steps up and fires the gun. Let's hope nobody does!!!

And the beauty of this career is that lots of us still lose jobs when the economy is great !
