UPS + DHL article

Hey Skymaster,
Why they fixation with all things UPS. Folks, click on his name and read his past posts. He is like a dumped girlfriend. Sorry that you didn't get hired, but could you please get over it. Seems like most of the doom and gloom come from this guy, not from people actually working at Brown.

Please don't stoop to using "facts" when responding to posts on this message board. Stating "facts" and "quoting sources" for those facts generally dampens further input by those who prefer their own version of "reality." In addition, it negates the sophmoric personal attacks that often follow such posts. In short, it mucks-up the system.

I did not start this thread to get into the usual DHL/UPS bashing, instead I posted a link to what I thought was an interesting article.
A person replied saying that DHL did not own shares but rather interests or "capacity" in Polar.
"DHL owns 49% of the capacity of Polar, not the company itself. Big difference."
So I went to DHL's archives and posted a link which said DHL does indeed own 49% of Polar...
"...DHL will invest $150 million (119 million euros) to acquire a minority 49 percent equity stake in Polar, including a 25 percent voting interest..."
This quote is straight from DHL's own website (link to the DHL website in my reply post #10).
What am I missing here, I'm really confused?
...or maybe once again, for the gazilionth time, I missed the sarcasm here? Without the sarcasm smiley [ ] I truly am sarcasm-blind.
Have been told that numerous times, in real life and here on APC. So I'm hoping I simply missed it again.
Otherwise, I'm absolutely clueless?

another article...
I'm sure that somehow I'll be accused of "leaving out the facts" all over again but here's yet another article regarding the DHL-UPS arrangement...
Appel: ‘No time pressure’ to pick provider

Although DHL now says companies other than UPS can be “a viable option” to be the air carrier for DHL’s international shipping operations in the United States, so far at least there have been no negotiations with ABX Air.
In addition, the CEO for the parent corporation of DHL emphasized at a Thursday press conference there’s “no time pressure at all” to make the choice of an air carrier, a relaxed approach that may slow down a possible commitment by DHL to turn over control of the Wilmington Air Park to the community.
DHL has advised ABX Air to plan to continue providing air transport for DHL until September, according to an ABX spokeswoman.
Deutsche Post World Net CEO Frank Appel said talks continue with United Parcel Service (UPS) regarding the possibility UPS will become the air carrier for DHL’s international shipping operations in the United States. But he said other air carriers are “also a viable option.”
“We will systematically try to find out who will be the best provider for us,” said Appel during his presentation, prior to fielding questions from reporters.
Appel declined to identify any of the air carrier options other than UPS.
There is “no pressure to conclude” the process of selecting an air carrier for the longer-term, said Appel, because DHL has existing providers of air transport for its international business in the United States — namely, ABX Air and ASTAR Air Cargo, both with Wilmington-based operations.
“We can be very calm and take our time,” added Appel.
Previously, there have been official estimates that keeping DHL’s international gateway business in Wilmington could mean saving the jobs of 800 or more workers at the air park.
Particularly if DHL Express has no presence at the air park, local and state officials hope DHL turns over control of the Wilmington Air Park to the community for redevelopment purposes.

Deal or no deal, you guys have great language in your contract. So that bodes well for all at Brown.
Here's hoping for the best for all concerned. Cheers.

Don't sweat it AV8' W. Sky is a little more raw than most of us from having the proverbial gun cocked and pointed at our heads for so long with no end in sight.
