You are wrong on this account. The union discourages it and we have people who make phone calls for the union providing information about the dp process and to get feedback on the pairing. There is nothing wrong with a guy taking a makeup trip and although counter productive maybe to your likes and beliefs there is nothing wrong with a senior guy (which I am not) protecting his carry over. Once the union comes out and makes a stand on it as something not to do then go ahead and cast stones. Until then I think people calling them scumbags and whatever do nothing except alienate our crew members. Personally, I don't think it makes a damn bit of difference until the company and the union come to an agreement to get rid of the massive amounts of carryover and cap the amount of BLG we can fly at straight pay. If <name removed> wants to fly everyday of the month and make as much as he can then more power to him, his make up bank is not going to do him any good when he is furloughed or excess ed.
As I said before fly extra all you want, no skin off my back. That does not mean I am not entitled to an opinion. There is a difference between the guy who flys 115 hours a month and the a guy who flys 78. Just like there is a difference between a $20 crack ho and a coed who only does a trick or two to help pay pay for new shoes.

Please show me where the union says don't fly DPs. If they make that bold a statement that puts to rest their excuses for not saying don't fly extra.

LAG, are u saying go ahead and fly DP's? Its chuckleheads that are Okay with flying the DP's; why does the SIG spend the brain cells and sweat to educate the rest of us regarding onerous pairings. We all know the MEC has no stones with the current management, but reading between the lines would indicate doing whatever is possible to save some johnsons from hardship..meh
I don't fly Dps, I don't fly extra when the company is threatening furlough, and I don't bid Acft that management pulled a slicky boy on the pay scale. But that is just me.

Nope. Just pointing out the union will never (short of self help) tell us not to fly extra; just like they don't tell us not to fly DPs.

All a matter of degrees. I will admit to throwing rocks when I shouldn't have. Bad on me. Flying extra is a hot button issue for me, though. I have friends who I helped get on at FX who I would walk through hot coals to help. I could use some extra jack myself...for reasons I could easily justify...and I have a mountain of makeup. But I feel like I would be doing my friends and everyone else on the junior end of things a disservice. Nails in their coffins so to speak. While I can see why the most junior would be cranking out CHs to put $$$ into an emergency fund, in the end they're hurting their own cause.
For those of you continuing to blab on about what the union is NOT saying, here is something they keep saying OVER AND OVER AND OVER again.
SHARED SACRIFICE
If you are flying a ton of extra, then guess what, you aren't sharing or sacrificing $#!+.
FR8Hauler, publish away....don't forget the emails that talk about shared sacrifice.
