Bidding every month IS a pain in the arse but I definitely prefer it to the 56 day bid months at UPS. I rarely know what I'm doing ONE month in advance, let alone two. And, for the foreseeable future, dropping trips/trip trading to be at home when needed isn't much of an option.

Popeye pretty much nailed it.
Reading the post that have been started since the "furlough scare" only highlights our weakness as a group. There have been many issues identified as "dealbreakers" in the upcomming contract, most of these issues didn't merit discussion a short while ago.
One of the new socialist views, that the benifits of seniority need to be replaced by some new "fairer" system is ridiculous. The only reason these fringe ideas are not being slammed is because of everyones sensitivity to the F-word.
I decided to do a little research into what the "junior guys" were doing with regards to their schedules. What I found was not surprising. Many had built their lines to BLG's that were in excess of the minimum. Reference the most junior FO's in anchorage, last page of names in the bid pack. Now what are their reasons, I'm sure if you asked them you would get many different answers. But it doesn't seem that not flying extra to protect their jobs is a priority.
The bottom line is, everyone likes the ability to make more money and manipulate their schedules. As of now, this is most easily afforded to the persons most senior. That is not good enough for some. They want everyones ability to do this, to be equal. That is bull, and would be pointed out bluntly if current conditions did not exist. Most of the "proposals" being thrown out are idiotic and are a kneejerk reaction to a short term problem.
If you want to see how idiotic this really is, check the feeding frenzy during open time. If most practiced, what they preached, the open time would just sit there until it was assigned to the reserves. But such is not the case. The ascertions made by many on this forum are nothing more than an attempt to gain more from the contract than their seniority permits.

Some are likely to drop more for mil leave in the future. They are probably between big military leave assignments. A snapshot for just one month tells us little.

In order to do that they had to have dropped in previous months. If you are going to do research, I say be a little more exhaustive in it.

My make-up bank has over 200 hours, and I can't remember the last time I just dropped a trip.
Having said that...I know that guys in the Guard and Reserves have enormous make-up banks. But, I believe that would be a minority of the entire FDX group.

Is it possible that new experiences have tested never before utilized sections of the contract and those sections have been identified as lacking? How much more do you think we should lower my BLG to allow you to keep flying 90 hours a month? Socialism YGTBSM. Cronyism is the ism you are going for.

Just because its in the contract and its legal doesn't mean we should be OK. with the results.
This has without a doubt opened areas of the contract we thought we would never be dealing with. I just hope our memories don't fail us when it comes time to fix some language in the CBA that's taking a large piece of hide from our collective arsses:
4a2b
Minimum R-day value
Carryover
excess bidding
