Lag,

I thought I remembered you saying that you consistently bid carryover and took advantage of CIC. Are you still doing this? Are you going to only work for RLG/BLG until the manning issue is abslutely behind us?

Senior people are getting carryover. Why? It is generally a good deal and it allows them to pad their pay check. I'd do it on occasion if I was senior enough to get carryover. It is offered by the compny and our work rules allow it. The union has asked the company to try and limit carryover. They refused.

I would support (for a limited time only) a monthly cap. But until this happens, people are using their seniority to their advantage. I have no problems with that.

I bet they can live with your opinion of them.

In the past I consistently bid C/O and got paid 100 hours a month for 8-10 days of work. If you don't count being number 18 out of 20 on the R-24 list as being work. Since the company has instituted 4A2b to prevent furlough I have decided that I will not fly extra. Is that a hard concept to grasp.

When I was stealing my 100 hour months I was still "preaching" how stupid it was, as it allows fred to get a way with fewer pilots. It also creates a gold team brown team atmosphere. I like training on a day off but think we were stupid to agree to it as it allows the company to get by with fewer pilots.

I can live with them living with my opinion of them.

Thanks for your permission. Whining is in the eye of the beholder.

LAG, I couldn't agree with you more (on this topic.)

BEFORE enactment of 4.A.2.b. - knock yourself out if you wanna work the carryover for 100CH+ months every month.

NOW - it's all about who can prove whether we're "overmanned" or not.

If everyone keeps nuzzling up to the carryover trough, it just proves the company's case - 1 pilot doing the work of 2.

I think the union already said carryover = 200 jobs. How much more do they have to say?

If people are waiting for the union to say "don't protect carryover" before they stop - it ain't gonna happen.

We know you were looking for "Pull up the ladder, I've got mine central" but found this site instead.

Good luck in your search...

I am not senior, I am in the bottom 1,000. So as far as the "Pull up the ladder" comment, I am not at that point.

I am simply trying to be realistic. The company offers carryover, not the union. The union has tried to get the company to address this issue, however, they don't want to.

To ask people not to bid carryover or protect min days off isn't going to work. Why not ask them to leave the good lines for the junior guys (which I am one)? Seniority has advantages and this, for now, is one of them. I am FOR the union trying to negotiate a monthly cap for a limited time (6 months, a year?). I am FOR eliminating vacation buyback for this year. However, without some sort of agreement, asking guys to forgo their seniority is just a waste of time. Posting links to guys calendars isn't helpful. They are not violating our CBA in any way.

Is it fair that senior guys get paid 100 hours where we get 60? I don't think it is "fair", but as the saying goes, we only have to be junior once. Stay on junior equipment and get better schedule, vacation, carryover, etc. I bid the MD-11 as soon as I could hold it, and I don't get those options, but I knew that when I put in my bid. Seniority allows guys to hold those carryover lines and make more money. I accept that. I will be senior someday.

If you want changes, the more appropriate path may be with the union. Contact your rep and tell him what you want. Maybe the company will be more willing to work with us.

It's not really about what's "fair" at this point.

It's way beyond that.

If even ONE pilot is furloughed....it becomes about what is right and honorable.

Hopefully, it won't come to this, but how could someone continue doing the flying of 2 or more pilots while the most junior of us are kicked to the street with no income and no health insurance for themselves and their family during the worst economic crisis our nation has seen in decades?
