FDX - Transpo for HKG-based crews
Anyone else see JI's "From the Scheduling Committee" letter regarding the change in how the company transports HKG-based crews to/from CAN?
In short, to begin you trip, find your own way to the border for $25 to rendezvous with a van to take you the rest of the way to CAN, and, at the completion of your trip, they'll take you from CAN and drop you off on the HKG side of the border with another $25 to get the rest of the way home.

I feel for the HKG based folks. BUT, this was an issue that was specifically highlighted as one of the BIG unknowns before anybody signed up to go there that was not addressed in the LOA. This is a significant loophole that we as a pilot group left for the company to drive through whenever they thought they could. The same LOA that passed with 68% membership support and enthusiastic recommendations by our Union leadership. We have only ourselves to blame for allowing this to happen.

Bit of a stretch there..... It was always assumed there would be transpo from within HKG as in multiple pick ups or house pickups. They wouldn't have needed an LOA waiver to max ground transpo time if the plan was always drop and P/U at the border.

Assumed huh? By whom? Just the pilots? Expat packages typically have even this type of information spelled out in detail before being agreed upon. We again ASSUMED the company wouldn't take the least expensive option available to them. Kowloon is part of the Hong Kong SAR. The company is perfectly within their rights to do this...or we'd be grieving it.
The pilots continue to bring a knife to a gunfight when negotiating with the company.

Yep, I do not get it. We grieve these trips how?
Yes, I read the e-mail, but I do not see what basis we have to grieve it. Is it because we expected the company to "do the right thing"?
As stated above, if we wanted the transportation issue spelled out, it should have been in the LOA. No one to blame, except the MEC, the NC, and the pilots who voted for it. I can not blame the company here.
No use crying over spilled milk. You reap what you sow. etc...

From the LOA information page.
There is no provision for moving a car in the enhanced 2 year option. Transportation is a personal choice in both places and each has its own unique issues. In CDG, the Company intends to provide transportation from the FedEx ramp to areas of the airport where trains or taxis are available. The Company also plans to set up transportation to the city center at times when other public conveyances are not operating. In Hong Kong, there will be a central meeting place for transport to Guangzhou for those trips that originate there. In both places, we are exploring parking at the airports if you drive your own car. Obviously this option, or an acceptable transportation option, must occur.
This LOA was "sold" by a bunch of individuals that had no intention of living in either domicle, and knew little about the logistics of travel in either place. Central meeting place, what does that mean, central between CAN and HKG, central to where most pilots reside? No car moving provision because transportation is a personal choice, what? Remember without the enhaced 2 year provision no $2700. One side of the negotiations knew what they were doing, and why they were doing it, the other did not.

Regardless of what you think of the LOA, or whether or not you think we did "this to ourselves"... It is just wrong to dump someone off at the border in the middle of the night and wish them luck on getting home with $25 in their pocket.
I mean, is this a place you can even get a cab or train 24 hours a day? Is it a safe area, with some sort of secure waiting area with other people around? If not, I am surprised that the company is opening themselves up to this sort of risk, and disregarding crew safety.

All the LOA says is central meeting place (see above). Where does it even say they have to give us $25 to get home from there.

In the end Mgmt is just shooting themselves in the foot over this petty "stuff". They can't seem to fill HKG as is. Do they really need more bad press to convince the crew force that HKG is a bad deal? Maybe the company should include "HKG/CAN Dropoff area" in the security info on p.f.c.

Though I sincerely hope things improve for the sake and safety of crews domiciled in HKG, I can't blame the company one bit for sticking it to a pilot group stupid enough (68%) to vote for the LOA (both of them) in the first place.
