Good Will?
To quote Stewie, "Are you serious? Is he serious?" What could possibly lead you to believe that there is, or was, any good will involved in this situation, or, for that matter, in any recent dealing between the company and the pilot force? Perhaps you can give one example of good will on the part of the company? I don't think the company has to worry about losing any good will. They never had any from the start.

Why? It didn't stop him from negotiating really poor international work rules, did it?

This whole HKG deal sounds pretty close to a foreigner finishing a trip in MEM, and when the engines wind down getting dumped on the corner of Lamar & Winchester with 6 bucks and a Chinese-language bus schedule...

Though I sincerely hope things improve for the sake and safety of crews domiciled in HKG, I can't blame the company one bit for sticking it to a pilot group stupid enough (68%) to vote for the LOA (both of them) in the first place.
Dude, you are still exuding that positive attitude....I am with you! Funny how some folks (like the ones who lived at an FDA) saw things like this happening, spoke up about it (i.e., got hysterical), and now that it is happening, at least in my case, am thinking "no sh!t folks....it should have been spelled out." I wish for the day that the people who voted for the LOA because the Union said it was a good deal, will realize a mistake was made on their part. And for those that thought it was a good deal without any prodding from DW and BC, I see no hope for them.

And talk about PSP! The FO spots cant get filled, and at some level in the management chain, they are pulling this kind of crap. Real geniuses. A big Bravo friggin Zulu.

FedEx management DOESN'T CARE about "good will" or doing things in the "spirit of cooperation" any more.

You are right - it's not smart management - and it already is coming back to bite them - albeit in very small and somewhat insignificant ways so far.

But - THEY DON'T CARE!!

They obviously feel they have the upper hand and are willing to destroy all good will and cooperation in order to save as much short-term cash as they possibly can. Probably their 5-star awards and yearly bonuses hinge on the $$$ saved, not the "good will of the crew force" garnered.

The sooner we all realize that a new management mentality has emerged, the sooner we can begin collectively and individually protecting ourselves from it.

I admit - I was one sucked in to the "spirit of cooperation" and "doing the right thing" for the long-term strategic benefit of the company - I voted YES for the FDA LOA.

But - EVERYTHING has changed since then. The company has proven that all that "good will" means NOTHING to them now.

From now on - I have a job - I will do my job by the letter of the law - and NOTHING MORE!
I have to wonder how high up the management chain these decisions are going. I have a feeling it might not be to high up, and when the higher ups see the mismanagement from the lower folks, heads will roll.

I thought the package was put together much too quickly and with too many key items not included in the LOA. Now that union-management has turned sour, it doesn't surprise me that they decided to go this route. Just like making reserves work 15/19, there is nothing I can find in the contract that says this isn't abiding by the letter of the law.

Once again, the company saves a nickel but loses goodwill. How many people will be willing to work to FAR limits the next time they need us? How many people are forgetting fuel sense? I hate to see relations turn like this, I think the "can do" attitude is what made Fedex the company they are today.

Want to save costs? Cut the carryover to minimum possible. Work with the union and find some middle ground.
