Seeing as FDX stock is currently trading at $49.15, he has probably taken a bigger hit than that.....

Which primarily impacts stock that he already owns... the same as it hits everyone else who owns stock.

His pay is approximately 15% of his total compensation, the remainder being bonusus (38%) and "other" (47%, which includes stock options). Those stock options at $49.15, or less, may turn out to be exceptionally lucrative assuming he can "afford" to wait until the recovery to exercise them. I'd be even more impressed if he took 0% for 2009. How much money does one human need?? Or, better yet, he gives back his salary to all employees as a sort of grassroots stimulus.

You should just be happy that he took the pay cut. Regardless of what we think, Fred certainly deserves his pay. Unlike some of those executive f*&kers on Wall Street, the Banks, and the Big 3 automakers, FedEx is still very profitable, and so our executives are earning their money. The aforementioned clowns, should not only be shot, but all their assets taken to repay both their employees as well as their investors. There, I feel so much better now.

Do you include the VP of flight in the category of "our executives are earning their money"?

If so, how, exactly did he earn it - by his brilliant and visionary manning decisions (cancelled bid awards, non-existent vacancies for over 60s, cancelled excess bids)?

or the skill and resourcefullness he used to open the two new foreign domiciles (oops, make that one) - to include the fully operational on schedule Asia hub operation (that's not even close to operational yet)?

or the way he's trying to compensate the company financially for his mistakes by taking money away from the pilots (4.A.2.b.)?

etc....etc....

yeah......he definitely earned his money.....

AFW_MD11,

I think your point might be well taken. I say might, because in fairness, I don't actually know what the VP of Flight (or for that matter, the SCP's) job really is. Nor do I know how they are treated by the management above them. In other words, are their decisions, theirs. Are their decisions accepted by those above, and are they allowed to actually influence the outcome or implementation of strategic decisions. Since I don't know, I'll just assume that someone above them is either happy with their performance, or they have gotten lost in the vastness that is FedEx, and as such, they continue to get paid, regardless of how they perform. Sort of like that movie where the guy was fired, but continues to come to work, for a few years.
