RLG vs Days off

Once, several years ago, after convincing my ACP that he WAS REQUIRED BY LAW to allow me to use my sick leave (and vacation for that matter) to care for a sick relative ... (FMLA - Family Medical Leave Act)
A FOS called just to inquire about how things were going ... she was very nice about it. I didn't mind the call.

I'm not an expert on much, but my wife is an attorney negotiator for companies on this issue (not airlines, manufacturing companies). I asked her about the FMLA law as it pertains to us and our contract. She said not contract overrides a law, but that FMLA is not to "care for a sick relative". You have to document ongoing care for a sick individual to qualify under FMLA.

Maybe massage FH's bad shoulder! Hey, how about some of those cool scooters, with the basket on the front, for the NDs? You know the kind they have at Walmart and the grocery stores? Park about 50 of them in a line where the NDs get off the crew bus and they'd be set. Give them a Harpo Marx horn, a helmet with a blinking light, turn signals and a backup beeper! Naturally, when not in use, the rest of us could have some team bumper car battles in the parking lot. Yeah, that's the ticket.

This was pre-contract days ... however, ALPA managed to get much of the FMLA written into the contract :-)
