Breakdown of FDX junior 700

The -1 in each seat, that they don't intend to excess from, gives the company flexibility to prevent a large overage in a seat, as a result of the excess bidding.. Without that -1, they would not be able to excess anybody out of that particular seat. Ex: They want to excess 30 Airbus F/Os but no Captains. The bid then becomes -30 F/Os and -1 Capt. Say 30 seniors Airbus F/Os bid to excess to the Captain's seat on the Bus and can easily hold it. They are awarded the Capt bid and the excess off the Capt's seat goes from -1 to -31. Without that -1, they would now have 30 too many Airbus Capt's. On the last, cancelled excess bid, there was a -1 for 757 Capt. This allowed 1 guy to bid to excess to a WB Capt slot. However, 2 other guys bid (or were awarded) the 757 Capt seat as an excess from the MD. This allowed a total of 3 to bid off the left seat of the 757. The -1 does allow you you bid what you can hold but, only one can bid off, unless there are others bidding into your seat. If someone tells you that a -1 in your seat lets a you go to whatever they can hold, t'aint true, unless you're bidding number one in your seat. You'll need some help from others.
Adding the "-1" all around is what makes it a "Bump and Flush" bid vs just a simple Excess bid.
...and it is the use of the "-1" in lower/narrowbody seats that will signal whether or not they are setting things up to furlough from the bottom (HKG/FO and 727/SO seats)

I was leaning toward no excess due to the huge training costs related to many -1s designed to flush everyone down into the Boeing.
But after more thought a small excess on the Airbus, CA and FO, would avoid that problem. Sure, some would bid to relieve, but that would even out the manning on the MD, which is less overmanned than the Bus. All the company has to do is create less carryover to absorb the extra bodies.
The company would like most of the excessed to go into the Boeing, IMHO. That would explain the ANC FO excess rumor too.
In short, "-1" or "-whatever" in the 727 FO seat will probably be a part of this. The company has already separated out each seat in Feb so they can tailor the averages to save $$ when the manning gets uneven due to a bump and flush.
I'm expecting the 727 SO list to gain a few names when this is all over.

Back in November RGS, BG said to expect an excess sometime at the beginning of the year, which would look very similar to the first two, with the exception that it would only be out of the Bus, not the MD-11. FWIW.

What is the motivation for the company to spend time and money sending pilots to the 727s/o seat. A recent O gram re-iterated the company's desire to park the old birds. 727s that is, not NDs.
To the extent that the training letter stays warm and keeps the Airway's Training building in business, I suspect we'll see some movement in a seat that is particularly over-manned. Over the next 12 to 24 months, there will be enough reasons to post excess or vacancy bids to keep manning levels where they need to be while at the same time providing some plausible deniability as to why the MBLG can't return to the proper CBA numbers.
I maintain that there is no emergency in manning. These excess bids and the like are more distractions to keep our eyes on the swinging watch. When they count to three, we will all be back in the AOC drinking coffee and eating popcorn.
