FDX--invitation to leave
#3
they have, before the bid was open, said that the 777 was not a "valid standing bid" or something to that effect - didn't they? but that was because it wasn't in the contract and the company hadn't put out a bid for it yet.
NOW - it is a valid standing bid, and the Union has NOT directed us in any way not to bid it.
They HAVE put out various "buyer beware" communications regarding pay rates, line construction, delivery delays, and possible min BLGs.
But, I think even the Union has resigned themselves to the fact that plenty of UNION MEMBERS are going to bid it - and they can't legally prevent them from doing so - nor should they try.
Not to mention the fact that since there are at least 250 willing bidders, one would only be hurting themselves to "not bid it" now as some way of "taking a stand" or "supporting the Union" - that's all behind us now.
I was probably one of the most naive of us all thinking "let's demand the A380 pay rates and show the company we're united by not bidding the 777"
There's much different/bigger fight on our hands now than - "let's show the company and just not bid the 777" -that ain't gonna happen now anyway (probably never was gonna happen)
Besides, like the union has said - depending on how things work out, the MD11 International may end up paying significantly MORE than the 777 because of min BLGs and line construction.
so........it's not about supporting or not supporting the Union anymore.

The Union IS saying:
"With management invoking their vision of 4.A.2.b., it is not certain, but quite possible that during the interim, the international MD-11 flying may pay significantly more than the B-777 due to line construction.
With the closing of the B-777 bid on Monday, care should be taken in any decision regarding this posting. This caution is in no way intended to dissuade any pilot from bidding the B-777, but rather to fully disclose the remaining uncertainties that we feel are critical for you to make decisions."
Like the previous post sums it up--Buyer Beware!
Or in other terms--Be carefull what you ask for, you just might get it!!!

In my knuckle-dragging over-simplified way of thinking I feel that anyone on the 777 list should be invited to leave the union. If you are that much of an independent contractor that you don't give a flying that the union has asked us not to bid it, then you should be asked to start your own union--with one member (with your own negotiating committee, legal, etc., etc.). The time for gently asking for cooperation is over. You're either with us, or agin us. Period.

This 777 bid will go down just like the 757 bid. It will close, then the company will "canvass" select persons on the bid and offer Flex/LCA jobs to them. They will commence training to get "up to speed" and be indoctrinated into the "good 'ol boy" club. The rest will sit and wait until hull number 1 shows up and the rest of the training can commence.
Expect the company to strike the back alley deals and promises they did witht he 757 introduction in the same fashion. It's their "with or without you" philosophy that is ruining the moral at this once great airline.
