AFW..thanks for the response and good luck with your bid. All I was really trying to say was that the union message about the bid seemed to say to me that you need to be careful now that the company has told us they can drop any plane they want to 48 hours BLG and leave other planes higher. It seems to me it will be easier to build a schedule like that from scratch as opposed to trying to design it while the target, say the MD-11 current flight schedule, is moving. Most guys I know that are bidding the 777 are doing so because they want to fly it and also because you usually get a lot of time off while they bring the new plane and pilots on line. In this case they may not get paid as much for that time off as they planned. The truth is no one really knows how it will shake out. I'm not a manager, don't play one on TV, and I didn't sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night. Hell I don't even have buddies who are managers that have me cruising the boards dropping leaflets when appropriate! I'm just a guy trying to finance my college football habit with some flying now and then. Next year may be looking grim for that right now!
Try this on for size..
MEM - PVG 49 off
PVG - HKG 53 off
HKG - MEM
TAFB 141 Pay 47:52
Put in NRT instead of PVG if you wish with same results
Now there is your 48 for the month if you actually were awarded it. A savings of 20 hours off the 68 BLG. If you can't hold it and are on reserve you get to sit 16 days for 48 hours which is where the real savings looks good to bean counters on paper. SO if you can't hold a line or a VTO that gets trips and not R days, you get the pay cut with the added bennie of no extra time off to go with it.
I am sure someone can tell me where I am wrong here but this is how I could see it coming down...
How do y'all figure the 777 will get the hardest with BLG reductions? Think about it....4 days of flying will be at least 32:30 or more, MEM-HKG-MEM.
You sure as he11 ain't gonna fly 4 days in a bid month, if you did, senior vacation would make you dang near unusuable for the whole year. YOu will see 2 departure HKG out and backs with some intra-asian flying totalling near 70CH.
