Before I start let me say I am civilian as well. How can you possibly slam our countrymen that have served this great country. Part of the reason you have this job, is former men and women who served and died to protect this freedom you now enjoy. I payed for my career as well, but I will never, never look down on someone who went other ways. That my "friend" is childish. I am on the 27 as well, and should you bring that attitude to my cockpit, you may leave. Period!! God Bless our soldiers!!

caleed Jack vs. Redeye.......at least then we can keep on subject. This will be my last post on this subject.
The original thread was about working 100% verses more.
We all agree the Union will not (Can Not) and won't tell you what to do on this. It is not a violation of the contract to refuse to fly extra. That was my point.
If Pilots choose not to fly extra that is their choice.
I really don't see how that affects you negatively!
True there might be more open time................................
but you don't have to fly extra either. If you do choose to fly extra, I still don't see how it affects you negatively.............More Draft for YOU if you want.............again Your choice.
I am not sure how the Military Reserve issue cropped up on this discussion .
But again you attack military reservist with almost a vengence.
Who cares if they drop a 70 hour trip for a 2 day military Drill.
That is their choice and more importantly their duty. The lose the pay of that 70 hour trip and have to make it up if they want the pay!
How does this affect you negatively.........................More open time, more trips to trip trade with.................in your case more draft/VLT.
If it is because you bid reserve and think you are not going to get called over Christmas or Easter or whatever................Sorry Charlie that is called seniority.
If FedEx is so under staffed...............who's problem is that Jack.......yours, mine?..................It is the choice/responsibility of FedEx MGT on how they staff the airline..........not yours, not mine.........
Go ahead and fire back with your "attitude". I don't know how long you've been in the industry, especially here Jack, but you will live longer if you just fly your own schedule and don't worry about the rest of us. Trust Me we will be fine.............
If you really want to volley back and forth..............Start a new thread..........otherwise there is probably some open time that just popped up waiting for you.
Cheers and have a pleasant evening.

Back to your originally scheduled thread....
I think we might be able to agree to disagree on this one. Some people think that picking up extra doesn't hurt, some do...Some people think that it hurts different people than the ones that think that it hurts the company. Confusing enough?
Okay, I'm tired...no more bagging on the military....jack. The mil guys can drop trips as much as they want....it's not like they are going on vacation...and if Iran kicks off, they will be going to get shot at....AGAIN!

Not to mention how many times do I hear of you military guys working your schedule to do mil leave and while the rest of us have to pick up your schedule. I hope you get on with FedEx. Its a great company. Generally the 10%ers do most of the postings on this site for all companies.

True colors shining through. And, Jack, THANK YOU for paying for me to get my skills. Someday I hope we can have a layover together so you can tell me again how I didn't really pay my dues, and I can then thank you again.

By any measure it is. Keep in mind that many of our fellow pilots who come up through the regionals do it on less than what your pension will be. How can you be crying about making 85k (FedEx + pension) your first year?? Get a 0% credit card, or cash out some savings like everyone else does. Also, I'd focus on the interview before making plans to fly widebody airplanes. You are on the bottom of the totem pole now and your 3000 hours of AMC time don't mean squat. I do not mean to sound harsh, but your tone seemed a little arrogant. I apologize in advance if I misunderstood you.
On another note, the union cannot put a ban on its members picking up overtime. That would be considered a job action since it violates the contract. But I would not be doing it anyway unitil the new contract is signed.

J.,
Thanks for the reply and no, I don't feel you've been too harsh. I didn't intend to come across as deserving special treatment, I don't know how I measure up against the average FedEx applicant which is the reason I mentioned my own flying time.
I get the gist of the overtime question now, but how many people out there are actually working "100%" and faithfully wearing thier hats? (The hat thing was another support idea kicked around in other threads.)
BTW, what did you do when you were in?

A quick unrelated question...
Under my username line, where it says "On Reserve," how do I change that?
Also, about deserving special treatment I mentioned earlier; my mom is probably the only one who thinks I do deserve it! (Don't ask my wife, you don't want to go there )

Just as FDXFLYR said, it's determined by the number of post you make. Upon reaching 25 post, if I'm not mistaken...it's been awhile...you will be able to receive and send Personal Messages (PM) and you'll be classified as a "Line Holder".
