That's kind of ridiculous for the FAA to require Satcom. I'm guessing they aren't allowing the use of ARINC or a jetcomm network be used, which i think would be unfair to FedEx given everyone else uses them, or did before ACARs was adopted.

It would be nice if flight Management kept us worker-bees advised of this sort of career/monthly schedule/bid altering stuff. Does this mean we'll find out this bid has also been canceled from the news media?

Who's the SCP? Do we have a SCP?
I don't doubt that flight management is finding out about this in the same way and time we are. Sure, they hear rumors, but nothing concrete until the die is cast. I imagine they are getting to spend today figuring out what to do with the bid. I bet the upper management and bean-counters are scrambling and things like this are very fluid. There are some good guys that have passed through flight management jobs, and when you talk to them, you find out that they aren't given much information either. I always wonder why some put themselves into that situation.

Maybe the suits don't know what's going on either.
