I have heard that cargo flying will reduce your life by 10-15 years. Pay is not the advantage in cargo flying because besides flying Fedex/Ups, you will be making a low to middle class living. Also seems like sitting in one seat for 10 hours and making one takeoff and one landing on each leg would become very boring after you initial honeymoon with the 747 or MD11 or whatever heavy jet they use long haul.

So will a poor diet coupled with a lack of exercise.

What do you think it is like for a PAX pilot who flies 76/77/74 int'l? All daytime with flying with no RFO/IRO to get you out of the seat for 2 or 3 hours at a time?

You can't sit in the seat for over 8 hours.......thats against FARs.
No pilot can exceed 8 hours at his/her duty station............that is wht there are RFO/IRO for flights that excedd 7:59 block and double crews for over 12 block hour flights............................

But it still can get boring........and the chow ain't that great either. especially when you have to cook it yourself.......................................... ..........................Now if we could just get that Flight attendant requirement (from some exotic country) inked in the contract for all flights over 5 hours........now that that would be something

You'd be surprised how long you can sit in your seat. If you have a F/E on board, that limit goes up to 12:00 for a single crew.
But if you are flying one of those old birds that require a F/E, most chances it will be too heavy to fly for that long non-stop, with full cargo load.

Try flying a C-5 with an augmented crew and the ability air refuel...You can sit in your seat for 4 days...

3 man crews = dozing for $$$
I prefer to cook my own meals, I can eat when I want, not when the FAs have time to throw a meal in for me. Plus I can steal the good stuff off the other trays!
RedeyeAV8r, we were all under the impression you FedEx guys get nothing but steak and lobster? You mean we're not the only ones with medicore food?

They are just jealous

I don't care if I am flying dog crap as long as the pay and job security are there.

Cargo is the $hit!

Our catering has suffered the Penny pinching ways of the bean counters.
Domestic catering is usually cold sandwichs or cereal...........

International catering is Fair......some Airport Catering is better than others....................

Steak and Lobster??.............
