I knew nothing about the China hub opening and if that's why their traveling to ANC that makes me feel better. Thanks for the info.

Peace!
Assuming you're off probation, absolutely DO NOT keep your mouth shut. Eighteen years ago I and most of my cohorts at USAir kept our mouths shut, and the ALPA MEC there sold us down the river for senior pilot interests. Learn from our mistakes.

No matter what they say, they (UPS) are both trying to strike fear into the hearts of the most junior (hence the reason for doing it in ANC), and gauge just how much they'll be able to use that fear to their benefit. While many of them can't even spell chess they know how to play games very, very well.

The IPA Executive Board has attended several briefings with the Company under strict confidential guidelines.
“While we can’t discus all the details of those meetings, we can assure you that there was no indication of a furlough,” said the EB.
“However, in this current economic climate, we can understand individual pilots are concerned and may want to pose their questions directly to the Company. We don’t expect the answers received will be different then those previously communicated to your Association representatives.”

All the more reason why someone from the EB should be there; keep upper mngt straight, or to throw in the BS flag if info is different than what was previously presented to them. What do they have to lose by being there?

Someone in the audience will innocently ask, "What are we expected to do to help" (if one of us doesn't ask, a management plant will). Leadpipes will segue into possible scenarios, mid-term agreement with the Union, less "sick leave abuse" etc. Underneath the whole discussion will be a thinly veiled threat that if we don't help out more, the company may have to furlough. Could I be wrong? Sure, just ask my wife! I've seen this kind of behavior from UPS and Lekites before, aimed at the most junior members. He did it to my class in basic indoc, he has done in Capt. Leadership school. (not real successful). The overarching point for us to glean from anything this guy says is that he's been told to say it by Atlanta in hopes of spreading disunity amongst the rank and file. Try not to laugh if you must go, but please report everything you hear to the EB. I hope they will send a couple of reps.

Airline management 101 ... nothing new here, move on !

Good post. If I make it I'll report back, but a free continental breakfast doesn't do much for me ...

This behavior isn't new to me or many other junior crewmembers.

Let's just hope that management chose to travel to ANC and back in a fashion that wouldn't prevent a lowly commuter from getting to work or home expeditiously. I'd hate to think they clogged up the seats. Might be a good question from the peanut gallery...

You don't say ?

You think they might have driven to ANC ? Or just taken a nice day flight after a long day in the office ?

Do you believe that the top executives in an airline should not ride in their airplanes? It may be popular sometimes to belittle the managers, but it really does not help to advance our issues, IMO.

I think the key here is you have nothing to gain by being there and that the IPA has already put out any information that is going to be presented.

Besides, how else would they get there. A chartered corporate jet ? Taxi cab ?

What he really meant to say was that it doesn't help us lowly P7s getting to work to move the boxes when the JS is clogged with P3s and P6s that don't move boxes.

Later,

CC

Serious (non-sarcastic) question -- seriously out of character I know -- does UPS have a corporate flight department? You never hear anything about it. I understand the UPSCO Airline guys ride around pri3/6 but what about Atlanta -- do they have a NetJets account or what? FEDEX has one, wonder what's taken us so long.

I don't think we have a corporate account with NetJets, but I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night either !

If Fred has an account, we will in a few more years.
