They have just recently been assigning standbys to first fly guys. I will never bid first fly as a result.

This change of policy doesn't really help the company (they don't care about leveling order other than to abide by the contract, all they want is a warm body in a seat). It just makes first fly less desireable for some of us.

In your case, obviously if everyone was on first fly, they would have to dole out the standby in leveling order. I still think they would pick the first person with 2 days of availability. I am not sure that doing this is legal by the CBA. Trips less than 48 hours TAFB should be assigned in leveling order. Are they treating standbys as trips????

Anyway, r1200, I would contact contract enforcement. Historically, I haven't seen standbys going to First Fly guys unless they would get assigned one anyway due to leveling order. I don't think this would be hard to get fixed, since it doesn't seem to really benefit the company.
I agree with what you have said, but this thread started with standbys not going to first fly guys. It said nothing about leveling - we all know regardless of first fly you can always be leveled into a standby. Since this thread started at the beginning of a bid month, I would assume someone on first fly got a standby with no leveling. Guess what, leveling in this case goes by seniority.

Last summer I was first fly and was assigned an afternoon stby. I showed at the airport and called to check in and ask about the first fly stuff. The scheduler offered to replace me and said I was assigned the stby by mistake, and that the only way first fly would get a stby was if they ran out of reserves not on first fly. Side note I declined and got sent to EWR (dh) and spent two days sitting hotel stby there. I should have let her replace me.

Then today it seems the rules have changed. No more FF for me, lots of stbys in Dec.

Been on reserve forever!!! I had this same thing come up and I DID go to contract admin AND our legal dept. The final determination was that if you are on first fly AND have the lowest leveling you can be assigned a STBY. If you are on first fly and have higher leveling than a guy no on first fly, he will get the STBY and you will be assigned a flying TRIP if available. You can check with contract admin and legal but I expect this is what you will be told.
