FDX BLG/RLG/MEC Hour Reduction
I seem to remember in the not too distant past the MEC voicing a 'share your pain' philosophy and that they would investigate lowering their hours if our hours went down. Well, our hours have gone down, but I haven't heard much lately from the MEC Share Your Pain Department.
Looking at the last nine months, the three MEC officers have earned over 211 CHs more than the average BLG and over 138 CHs more than the high BLG for each month. This isn't including their 'stipend' which is equivalent to an additional 6 to 9 CHs of pay per month. This is just over the last 9 months!
I understand they didn't cause the situation driving the lowering of our BLG/RLGs, but I don't see the value in them remaining insulated from what's happening to the membership at large. I think making their compensation equal to the highest paying line for their aircraft would be more than fair. First, none of them are senior enough to hold the highest paying line month after month. Second, they have additional benefits that would make up for any lost revenue. Third, our dues taken from our smaller paychecks are being used to pay their inflated paychecks. Finally, they would rise and fall with the rest of us.
Just my 2 cents worth (it was worth 4 cents at the market peak)

We at UPS were discussing this subject (about your contract BLG language) recently. We were unsure of what you have been reduced to so far, if any yet. Can you tell us what the current/original BLG is? If this is some kind of proprietary info, send a PM if legal.

Not to worry, we (FDX Council 79) just had a resolution passed that will take care of your concern. It will be presented at the next scheduled MEC meeting in January. To paraphrase the resolution, if BLG drops, the the MEC Officers will receive system wide average BLG PLUS 12% in addition to their guarantees in the MEC Policy Manual.

The company still has not taken any of the CBA steps such as lowering Min BLG to "prevent or delay a furlough." Like you folks at Brown, the only official word we have is "we really don't want to furlough." May never happen, or could drop on us after X-mas. Who knows?

I know of one ALPA carrier that pays their MEC Officers based on an average BLG of the 2 pilots senior and 2 pilots junior to them. Another option is to bid "Pay Only". I'm all for some sort of stipend or override. But by basing their pay on the rise and fall of their own seniority block would help keep them in touch with those that they represent.....IMHO
