Default CathyPacific cargo question?

Just wondering if any one out there knows the chances of getting
the ORD base as a new hire? Or where the new hires are all going.

ORD is not open to new joiners...ORD was my first choice.

I am heading to JFK and a guy that I interviewed with is heading to LAX. I think it is pretty much a crap shoot.

Hey,

Did you get based in the US right off the bat? How long ago did you interview? Is the pay the same for PAX flying? Also, what are schedules like?

Any info appreciated...

Thanks

I haven't even started yet. I head to HK for the induction course at the beginning of July. When they called with the class date they said it was for a JFK basing on the -400 freighter. When you are recruited as a Direct Entry First Officer you will get based in the USA if you are successful. The whole process for me will have taken 19 months total from first application to start date (10 months from 2nd interview to start date!!). PAX pilots get paid a good amount more than the box haulers, and I am committed to flying the boxes for at least 3 years.

4everFO,

What were your times / experience, etc? Could you briefly describe how you went about applying. Did you go through Aeroservice, or apply directly through their website?

Also, any information as to the hiring / interview process would, obviously, be appreciated.

Thanks!

When I applied I emailed a resume, they looked at it and then decided if they wanted to mail me an application. I got the app, filled it out and sent it to Hong Kong via FedEx. I do not know anyone in Cathay and I have zero 121/turbine PIC time. 6+ years of being an F/O at 2 different US based regional airlines...a mix of turboprop and jet SIC time.

Good Luck,

Is this contract flying or do you actually become a Cathay pilot? How long is the upgrade and also how large are the U.S based Pax flying domiciles, are they easy to get?

Job is a career until retirement not a contract. DEFOs are placed on the same seniority list as the pilots flying the PAX fleet based in Hong Kong.
During my interview I was told to expect a freighter command around the 4-5 year mark, PAX command around the 9-10 year mark (keep in mind I was interviewed/hired many months before the big B777 order was announced, so that time frame may shorten).

I have noo idea how big the US based PAX bases are.
