777F & 747-8 (The Ocho) Officially Delayed
We all knew they were going to be delayed, but, this makes it official. No official word of Air France 777s though?
Boeing confirms first delivery of the 777 Freighter and 747-8 Freighter/Intercontinental will be delayed as a result of the recently settled machinists strike, as well as by continuing supply chain issues.
The delivery of the first 777F to launch customer Air France has slipped by around two months into early 2009. Industrial action by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) badly impacted assembly of the third 777F, which will be the first one to be delivered to Air France. It also partially affected flight tests that were originally due for completion in October, but which are now expected to wrap-up in December.
"The 777 Program has assessed the impact of the IAM work stoppage on the 777F first delivery schedule and, at this time, they anticipate first delivery to be in the first quarter of 2009," says Boeing. Following the completion of flight tests in December, both test aircraft, WF001/002, will enter refurbishment.
Delivery of the first 747-8F to launch customer Cargolux has meanwhile slipped from its target date of September 2009 to sometime early in the third quarter. The schedule for the follow-on 747-8I Intercontinental is also delayed by roughly the same amount of time, and will now see deliveries start to Lufthansa in the second quarter of 2011, rather than late 2010.
Boeing says the hold up on the 747 is also related to supply chain issues concerned with fighting the weight growth problem that has dogged the 747 stretch effort.
The 747-8F/-8I is configured with a new wing which, during detailed design, required some strengthening. As a result, Boeing raised the maximum take-off weight (MTOW) of both passenger and freight models by 5,000 pounds to 975,000 lbs, the second significant rise in two years since development began in 2005 at a target MTOW of 960,000 lbs.

I called and told them a sales rep from UPS would be calling. I wonder how much of a sales lead reward I get from this one?

Looks like they're still going to AF:

From ATW daily:
Boeing said it will deliver the first 777F to Air France in the 2009 first quarter rather than the current quarter as a result of the recently concluded machinists strike, according to press reports. The manufacturer last week announced a 6-9-month delay to its 747-8 program (ATWOnline, Nov. 17). The Everett Herald said Boeing has two 777Fs in flight testing and one in production. There are 73 orders for the aircraft.
