[quote=BOYCAPTAIN;497591]what is your problem with conversing with your fellow pilots on this board?...it created a lot of unity during the LOA vote and there are good ideas and lots of questions answered on this board....[/quote

MEC is scary quiet(as usual)-break out the K-Y, Volumes are down, 727 about to re-invented(again), must be quiet in "0" s offices P.S. while they ponder a furlough.

Let's see...the company is trying to capture new business from DHL that shuts down end of Jan.

Why in the world would they announce a furlough and scare that potential new business to UPS?

Maybe the rumor can finally be laid to rest.

We have excess capacity and too many excess bodys(witness foxhunter)

1. the act or process of dividing; state of being divided.

Think long term...in these economic times, threats of furlough mean little.

Easy on the trigger finger there Mario..........
OK, consider this: Let's assume that the captain owns the c/p seats. You're trying to get to work but all seats in the back are booked, so you request and receive capt's permission to ride up front. Now, the captain drops/trades/sicks the trip and a new captain is assigned unbeknownst to you. This new captain subsequently gives his permission to other jumpers and fills the cockpit. According to your logic this new captain has acted within his authority, since he owns the seats (not the other guy), so you show up to get a ride and guess what? You're SOL. Who cares that you booked earlier, you don't have permission from the current captain. Good luck getting to work.

Do you really want this kind of nightmare as a captain? Fact is, everyone who rides up front is fully authorized to do so, so the captain's input is inconsequential. Besides, why would you deny someone?? Non-member?? Don't like his/her looks?? You're setting yourself up for trouble.

Be careful what you ask for!

When I give permission for a cockpit j/s, the j/s'er still needs to contact admin to book the seat. (There's directions in the FOM so when the Capt replies, it goes directly to jumpseat admin). The j/s'er approved by the first Capt would be on the FP/R and once those seats are full, it's standby. I can give permission to 20 and j/s admin will still only book to the available cockpit j/s's.

Wow, Are you kidding? It's the Captains flight deck, period. When you need to ride up front you ask permission. It's a privileged to ride...not a right. And yes, I commute.

This slow degradation of the Captains authority is the real problem, taking authority/decisions out of the Captains hands has got to stop.

So the line in the sand is drawn over cockpit jumpseats? No wonder we're in the mess we're in.

As a Captain who does commute, I wish I could somehow file a note with the Jumpseat Nazis that all FedEx crewmembers "Have my permission to use the cockpit jumpseats."

Not at all... draw the line where you will. But the J/S should remain the domain of the Captain, I always ask for a ride home, whether I am in the back or up front. Are you one of the folks that book a J/S and just assume you get to ride?

Do I think it is a line that should not be crossed... to put it mildly h&*l yes.
