I often wonder where (or "were" to quote "O") management gets their update topics but I think just maybe Capt. O has some valid points (and most of you know how much I hate to say that).
I have walked in from the O&B lot with guys who said they were headed on an around-the-world 10 day trip? (And no ... I would never report them to the parking lot police?)
I recently showed up for my flight from the west coast to MEM to find out I had an MD-11 with a CRA (sleeper) and would have to have the jumpseaters sit in the cockpit. No problem in itself, and I probably wasn't using my best CRM when I asked the j/s'ers to S-T-F-U during our taxi for takeoff (one of them was a Capt and should have known better!). I was about 1 minute from taxiing back and explaining they would have to find another way to get to MEM!
Fitness for duty? Now that discussion is just plain insulting if you ask me? Not at all sure what his point was?
And the whole furlough discussion ... I honestly believe him when he says he's trying to do everything HE can to prevent them, I'm just not sure if he has any input into important decisions like that?

Way to go,
5. Fitness for Duty
With the world economic markets experiencing such dramatic fluctuations on daily basis, it is
crucial that we remain as flexible as possible in response to the needs of our customers. If we
don’t, our competition will. It is imperative that crewmembers make every possible effort to
arrive ready and able to operate to CBA limits, and if need be, to operational limits. Please use
appropriate fatigue mitigation strategies to include proper nutrition, exercise, sleep patterns,
augmented crew status, and aircraft sleep facilities. Please reference CBA 12.A.9 for guidance
concerning fatigue policy.

I think the giveaway in the O&B lot were those few cars with covers that happened to be in the same spot for about 6-9 days in a row. If you are going to put a cover on your car, don't park in the row next to the front fence.

It reminds me of the time our now "Safety" guy fired two guys in Subic for not jump seating out during a Cyclone. They both got their jobs back, but I'm sure it sounded safe to EL sitting in Memphis with all his Pacific experience. I don't read a word he puts out.

No, I think the fitness for duty was about them trying tell a guy that was scheduled to fly STN-CDG (45min) that he should be able to fly STN-CDG-MEM on a moments notice to cover a guy that got beat up. The DO tried to implied he was not fit for duty. I'm sure eating crispy creams in Memphis it sounded reasonable. Lets see a 4 hour scheduled duty sounds the same as 20 with your feet up on a desk in Memphis. Just a guess on my part.
