Default FedEx - 90 day landings question

Question for the landing needy: Does FedEx let you start a trip to update your landing “Recency of Experience” in which if you were to receive zero landings on the trip you will expire in the middle of that trip? (Trip starts more than 48 hours before unqualified date) Reading the VIPS notification it appears that they would but I know that “They” have been known to just do whatever they want in the name of “we’ve always done it that way”.

All VIPS says is: If you lose qualification due to lack of landings, all trips and/or R-Days which are scheduled to show within 48 hours of the above date will be dropped without pay. That time will be eligible for make-up; however, you will only be compensated for days spent requalifying if you made reasonable efforts to maintain qualification.

Thank for any advice from those who have experience in this.

No, your trip would be dropped. You would not be a qualified crewmember, or RFO for that matter, if you were not current on landings.

As an f/o I would frequently bid RFO trips with long international deadheads (I still have over a million NWA miles). As a result I was almost always short on landings. I had pretty good luck emailing capts in advance and advising them of my situation (Dear Capt, Due to my own poor planning, I'll need the first 3 landings please). Most guys were pretty nice about it ...

As a result, I try to give the fo's the extra landings (As in 5 landings on a trip, the fo gets 3). And I agree with PurpleTail, your trip will be dropped (probably without pay unless you can arrange to get your landings in the sim prior to departure).

I had that same situation several years ago. My landing currency was going to expire 10 days into a 13 day trip. I called the scheds folks, confirmed that I was going to get three landing prior to the expiration date, and they let me keep the trip.
I don't know, maybe I got lucky and got a sympathetic scheduler, but I got my landings and went on my way. I suggest you call and ask both scheds and the ALPA contract enforcement office.

Go to Work, why do that when you can sit reserve at home and get paid.

If the trip starts before the 48 hour window you shouldn't get dropped. Just make sure you get your landings before the specified date.

Example: My 90 day landing currency lookback expires on 20NOV. The 48 hour window is 18NOV. I have a trip that starts on 10NOV and goes until 22NOV. They won't take that trip from you, at least they haven't for me in past scenarios.

Wow! What a nice guy.
I may give up a landing for a junior F/O (like a nugget) who hasn't been able to get enough landings because he has a crappy schedule. No way would I give up a landing for a senior professional RFO that can't plan his trips to stay current. Screw 'em

How about if he offered to buy the Capt and F/O dinner and drinks all night? Does that sweeten the pot enough?
