The way I read the FAR's is every 121 carrier is suppose to have them installed. There is mention of 0-XX passengers, cargo carries 0 passengers so dont we fall into that category??? Just wondering.
Half way to PVG is not the place to need something like that.
From Wikipedia:
"Uncorrected, these cardiac conditions rapidly lead to irreversible brain damage and death. After approximately three to five minutes, [3]irreversible brain/tissue damage may begin to occur. For every minute that a person in cardiac arrest goes without being successfully treated (by defibrillation), the chance of survival decreases by 10 percent.[4]"

I just read in the newspaper the other day that a guy who was 47 died of an heart attack. He went into cardiac arrest and his heart wasn't pumping enough blood to allow his brain to maintain correct function. His heart then stopped completely about 7 minutes later and he was pronounced dead when the paramedics arrived. So you don't have to be old to need one of those things.
As some of you know, in July of 2007, I had just finished playing one game of racquetball and was sitting outside watching some friends play, when out of nowhere, with no warning at all, my heart went into cardiac arrest. It was continuing to beat, but irregularly and thankfully there was a medical doctor on the next court, who immediately started CPR, which I later found out, did nothing to restart my heart, but it did pump blood to my brain, which is the most important thing. Then my heart stopped entirely and I died. Thankfully, the club had a defibrillator, which they immediately hooked me up to. It self tested and then shocked me. It restarted my heart and brought it back to a normal rhythm, about the time the paramedics arrived. If I had been almost anywhere else when all that happened, I'd be dead right now. As a side note, I didn't see a bright light or any virgins. I awoke in the hospital, confused and not knowing anything that had happened to me. So thanks to the AED, I get to hang out here and put in my .02 cents every once in a while.
