Good for you, JJ. Sounds like you've thought it through. Best of luck to you...

Lynchings are never a good idea at APC. Just report the post and let us take care of it. Thanks.
I don't recall using the word 'lynch'

Since he was most unkindly referring to those of 'advanced longevity' I thought 'gumming' & 'caning' would be the appropriate measure

It'd be nice to have one on each aircraft.

In a two-man cockpit, though, there's some issues there. Is the other guy expected to leave his seat to get it going?

I agree Huck. God forbid, something go seriously wrong while you're out over the middle of the Pacific.
I would think in this senario the answers is:YES.

You could declare an emergency, put the aircraft into present position hold, and then leave the seat to attend to the other crewmember in the cockpit, taking occasional glances over at the instruments until you got the AED going on automatic.

Beats the alternative !

Ever test the limits of the "Pilot Response" warning system ? Seems these aircraft do just fine without any pilot input for 30 minutes ... or more.

Out over the Pacific wouldn't be a problem.

I'm thinking more along the lines of getting vectors for an approach, or right after takeoff.

I'd be kind of hard not to try and save the guy, but it'd be pretty busy for a few minutes......

I'd think that in the traffic pattern, the stricken pilot is just SOL until you get the plane back on the ground. On a positive note, 5 or 10 minutes with no oxygen to the brain would probably do a world of good for some of our guys anyway. Out over the pond is another story. Hopefully, if the company does put AED's on each jet, they will also provide education and training, not only in the use of the device, but also a review of the FOM procedures, that guide our decision making as to when/where to land with this type of in-flight emergency.

Talking Goc

They just installed an AED in GOC a few weeks ago.

The DNR list some taped to it only lasted a few hours before mgmt noticed...
