I would imagine one of the Moderators, ever the arbiters of good taste, took unilateral action and removed the grossly offensive commentary .. . before we took things into our own hands and hunted the slimy perpetrator down ourselves.

Remember that the FAA takes a different approach toward passenger airlines than it does with cargo airlines on many issues, cargo fire suppression, screening of cargo, etc comes to mind. Maybe this is just another "you simply aren't as important" example?

Good point...but do we have AED's in sorting facilities?? Or anywhere on property for that matter?

There was the old classic freudian slip during one of the hearings when we were fighting for TCAS on freighters. After testimony in support, one of the UPS advocates slipped up and said "...well, it is an insignificant loss of life after all..." (regarding a collision between two freighters). Then somebody piped up, "...oh yeah, over Chicago at 3AM, insignificant indeed..." .

I do wonder if AEDs have ever been brought up by the union? You know, many of us like to blame the company for all evil in the world, I guess it's easier that way and we can never be wrong, right?... However, maybe this issue has never even been brought up?

From the American Red Cross web Site: American Red Cross - Health and Safety Services: AED
"Health and Safety Services page:
How much does an AED cost? The cost of an AED varies by manufacturer and model. Currently, an average price for a single AED unit is about $2,300."
362 Fedex aircraft X $2300 = $832,600
A relatively cheap insurance policy even if an on-board AED saves just one Fedex pilot. Definitely worth bringing up to the union.

There's one on the wall in the FedEx AOC (Flight Ops for you non-FedEx types). Not sure what prompted it's installation? Maybe the insurance company? Seems like a good idea though

Thanks JJ.
This is exactly why I bring this up. If you were more than a few minutes from anywhere then you might not have been so lucky. When we are out on a trip we are not so lucky. Why dont we have these on board? Anyone have an idea? 121 it is a requirement right?
