A few weeks ago in GS, Capt."O" stated were several hundred pilots overmanned. He also said it's very expensive to conduct excess bids/furloughs and he was trying to avoid that option at all costs (I've always wondered if he as any authority in these areas or he just does what he's told?).

All-in-all, "600-1000 furloughs" seems an awful lot like a diversion tactic to me, to distract us from more important issues (maybe 777 pay, maybe a NC chairman, maybe upcoming Contract 2010 negotiations?).

So we are potentially going to furlough 13-21% of flightdeck crewmembers?

I don't believe I said that? In fact, I suggested it's much more likely a "head fake" to distract us from more important issues. Not sure where you are coming from Al?

Settle down, I am not accusing you of anything, just provide context for these incredibly high numbers of "potential" furloughs. BTW, I agree with you about the "head fake."

High overmanning numbers indicate a prediction that flying hours will be reduced.

No prediction on my part, just trying to understand a rumor heard in this thread.

When I first heard of FE getting fired I immediately wrote my block rep and asked for answers. 2 weeks later and nothing but crickets chirping in my in-box.

I posted on another related thread that I knew from very reliable sources that FE was fired. "JagPilot" and "JohnMobilian" stated the same. I don't know where others, who claimed otherwise, got their information but we knew the real story and tried to convey it to everyone on this forum.

600 people eliminates 37% of the F/O's in the 72 (103 of 280).
600 people eliminates 71% of the F/O's in the Bus in HKG (10 of 14).
600 people eliminates 50% of the F/O's in the 11 in ANC (117 of 234).

All valid points. So, what do we do? How can we pry the door open so that we feel represented instead of mislead?

Hey, I do agree. I am only putting forth the numbers that I heard from that very reliable source. You saying it's unrealistic is spot on. That validates my theory that an excess/furlough announcement would be a type of collusion/manipulation/persuasion to get a 777 LOA passed.

Mark, I agree completely. With the actions of the MEC of late, (we), have all of the characteristics of a circular firing squad.
