I work for none of the companies involved. I'm just an outside observer watching how this shapes out. It seems to me that that first paragraph goes directly at DHL and shows that UPS wants all of DHL customers, which it should(this is the free market still), but these statements seem irresponsible if they are really trying to make the deal happen.
If I was an antitrust lawyer I would use the first paragraph to show that UPS has no intentions on providing quality service to DHL customers and this deal would just be another way for UPS to eliminate DHL.

How about we all ( except for the usual suspects ) try to keep this one civil for a change.

We all know that DHL is all but surrendering it's domestic ground position and is severely curtailing it's domestic biz within it's international accounts here in N. America. That lost business has to go somewhere . UPS (and I'm sure FDX) can smell blood in the water and they are going after it. Will our side try to use this as an example of anti-trust? Of coarse. While I personally feel we have a good case for A-T (I am a little bias ) if a deal is signed, I don't think this latest development will help us further that case. It's pretty much public knowledge that that DHL is surrendering that segment of it's biz. It's only natural that the two remaining competitors will go after the customers.

As for the deal being dead, it could be. But then again maybe not. No one knows for sure except the principles. We all have our reasons for thinking one way or another. So let's all try to be a little fracking civil about it.

I can say that as well. Here it goes:

It's "not in writing", yet. And I'm not going to splash my "sources" names all over the net. There is a confidentiality agreement in place.

But I stand by my assertion "The deal is NOT dead."

See, it is amazing that one can write something on a message board trying to pawn it off as THE TRUTH. Until you can back up your statements, then all you have is conjecture and rumor. Nothing else.

If this deal falls through, I will be ok. UPS, in their infinite wisdom and knee-jerk reactions, may try to announce a furlough. I don't think it will happen, but this has been beaten to death in another thread. So, in your words, I have nothing to "get over." I hope this allows you to keep your job. I've been down the unemployment road way too many times. I'm trying to show you that w/o backup, I'll wait to see it for myself. Sorry if I don't take your word for it.

I have my "sources" as well, and from what I have been told, the deal is not only not dead, it's actually closer to being done than you think. I can also tell you the deal is no longer for 1 billion. The economic problems we have seen in the past few weeks have actually helped the deal. Take it for what it is worth, but that is what I have heard, and it has not come from any "sources" at UPS or DHL.

You might be right, but as far as having any volume left for you to fly with DHL firing their US sales force, I wouldn't feel too confident about your job.

I'm glad to see UPS doing this, and it's good to know that UPS is trying to get all DHL's business before they pull out of America.

UPS and FedEx will be much better off after DHL pulls out of here and goes home.
