Perhaps he misunderstood what his sponsor was telling him. It wouldn't be the first time. Anyway, I think what was meant was that once you're in vips, and you click on "Crew Notification", from that point forward, vips will not allow you to perform any other operation, without first acknowledging the crew notification. At least that's my take on it.

He is not the first I have met that was misinformed or misunderstood. I have re-educated more than a handful of FOs and even a few Capts about this!

Can the meet and greets, hire ratios need to radically change from the AF maj/col ratio so radically employed last number of years. Time for a new paradigm; and diverse group at FDX. Navy fighter guys excepted.
