But on a serious note.... I'm sure the Union Leadership would not pass such a LOA to the membership for a vote because it would violate the contract rules for bidding and seniority. ... would they?

Yeah.. I and a whole lot of other folks are dreaming. We'll just have to grin a bear it for now. Senority still comes with time.. doesn't it?

It has nothing to do with time.

Only a function of who leaves in front of you....and if they hire behind you.

Great question....

I wonder why mgt and/or ALPA hasn't seen the need to "push" this answer out to the crewforce...

I think it's another vital piece of information all the players should openly know/understand before the 777 bid comes out.

Any lurkers/"folks in the know" care to chime in?

Thanks in advance!

At the last two union meetings that I went to, Fred stated that they are in talks with the company to address the bidding issue of +60 pilots in relation to international lines. They want the Capt to bid and be awarded the line, then the +60 F/O would not be legal to bid the line.

....which would then be an abrogation of seniority.....

If you read the FAA restriction, it basically restricts the Capt, not the F/O so some say that the Capt should be the one who cannot bid the line if there is an F/O on it. Either way would abrogate seniority. There really is not a great way to keep seniority in check, but at least with the Capt being awarded the line, then if the F/O was senior to the Capt he could upgrade to Capt.....

Bottom line is that Fedex as well as other Airlines are pushing to get the restriction lifted, so it will be a mute point soon.

It can only be a "mute" point if somebody makes it, but nobody can hear it. However, it could be a "moot" point soon if we could all agree on the definition of "soon". Pushing ICAO to do something quickly can be like trying to steer a glacier, lots of effort with no results. Maybe FH or JJ can fill us in on APAAD's take on the future for this restriction.

Sorry about the moot point,
I've got to start reading something other than APC....
