Here is the argument I heard recently....................
The majority of us have sacrificed in our contract negotiations so that the ND's could get:
A pension multiplier
Better retiree health care in a few years
Five more years of a career, etc, etc.
Now we're supposed to flex some muscle so that the ND's can have a higher pay rate on the 777 that they're all going to bid?
Why don't we just save our efforts for ourselves when we're negotiating a new contract five years from now?
What do you all think?

So you think it's going to be easier to renegotiate a higher pay rate for the 777, 5 years from now, than it will be to negotiate an initial ULR jet pay rate? I can see it now. You're sitting down with the company and they say: "we think the widebody pay that is currently being paid for the 777 is fair and reasonable, and we won't increase it." So it finally goes to arbitration, where, after looking at the issue, the arbitrator says something like: "There's no reason for an increase in 777 pay rules, because you guys have been flying the jet, with the current pay rules for the last 5 years." Next issue, please.

It's very short sighted and the fact is that while this first crop of 777 pilots might in fact be all the over-60 guys, the next crop will probably be about the same. This aircraft, until something newer and bigger comes along, will be The Senior aircraft on the property, and that said, will probably be flown by the more senior, older guys, from now until the end of days. You younger guys don't seem to understand it yet, but, you too will be a ND, at least if you're lucky.

I not only agree with all of you, I argued those points to this guy. The biggest point I tried to make was that if a higher pay rate was negotiated, the 777 would probably be flown by the most senior pilots who are not necessarily the oldest pilots.
The main reason I posted was because I was surprised how persuasive this guy was on his points and I was wondering if there was that much backlash out there against the ND's concerning this issue (as opposed to the backlash on all the others).
