That may not be far from the truth the 400k. Guys may embellish some no doubt. But you start adding up the figures it can get high. He may have added the retirement stuff to his figures that inched it up. You are going to make the IRS rich if you come here, you can bet that.

ABX Air DC-9 captains who fly their tails off can earn 300G's. We here at UPS have a handful of captains making over 280G's a year.

This guy said the top captain at Fedex made like 438 G's. However, he also spent some time in the sim as an instructor...soo, I guess you can't consider him a true line pilot.

I'd venture a guess that at UPS the top earners are in low low $300,000+ range, but very very few of them.

Without getting into the technical details (which differ from from one airline to the next), you can earn well over the normal yearly pay by dong a couple things.
1. become senior in seat, work the angles. At Fedex, the "angles" have been slowly going away, thanks to contract work rule changes when we voted in our first TA, and computer optimizing of schedules and deadheads.
2. Work in training, line check or other non-normal line flying. Lots of good deals that never make the light of day for some who play the angles, work the schedulers, adjust/working around their projects.
3. Live in domicile!! No end to little trips you can pick up if you always make yourself available. Depending on life style (married or not, happy at home or not ) you can sit reserve on your normal sch than "work" your days off; no life, but that's your choice.
4. Brown nose (or purple nose, as it applies) all the above into a life of one good deal after another. You'd be amazed how many pilots (at Fedex) sell back their vacation, sell back sick (at the end of the year for 401k contributions), work the angles, BN (PN) and just have no life outside the crew room.

Now if you want that, and the notoriety of being the biggest wh@re on campus, you now know the gauge. Don't forget, your second wife is going to want a big house too, just like the first, and a Mercedes too.

Default UPS or FedEx?

I need to figure out how to use the "quote" option.

Quoted by dckozak:

DC that's funny...

For me, I'll go with the one that hires me first.
I'm just waiting for an interview call.

In the bottom right hand corner of each individual post is a "QUOTE" button. Poke it and the entire content of that post will appear in a reply window. If you want to concentrate on just one line or a particular segment you can delete as much of the original post as you want to narrow down your reply.

By the way, you have the right idea. Take the first job that happens along. If you get there and decide that it's not right for you, you can always get back into the hunt mode.

The super high dollar people are almost exclusively instructors. There are a few line folks who supposedly push the $300K mark but they are rare and have no life away from the airport.

Bottom line- fly your line, don't sell back vacation, don't draft/volunteer and a 15 year wide body captain should have no problem making $210,000ish under the current contract.

That'll drive a couple of people around here nuts.
