I had an old Pan Am guy tell me once - when they start talking about fuel savings, it's the beginning of the end.....

I'm not a FX guy but find this interesting. At UPS its rumored that they keep track but don't make it public if they do. In the past some Captains have been called in asking why their ops tempo has so changed during negotiations.

Letting the company misdirect our goals into cost savings instead of safety will come back to haunt us.

Excellent idea!

You are taking the entirely wrong perspective on all of this.

Fly slower on the 'almost' . .or 'close to' 8 hour block time domestic flights . . which we all know are based upon the 'historic' .84, .85, .86 -'balls to the wall' -'can do', 'Absolutely, Positively' spirit here.

Let's see how long it takes the bean counters to figure out if replacing several '8 in 24' crews is cheaper than the fuel it takes to 'get the boxes where they need to be in the time alloted.

Don't know if this has been brought up before, but someone mentioned diverts.

If you divert (because, say, we are landing south at The planet and ATC is behind the power curve) that does NOT count against the Fuel Sense numbers.

They do not take penalties when they tweak the fuel too tightly and we end up bailing out to maintain a margin of safety.

Just food for thought when looking at your next FP/R.
