FDX-PDO Bump

Ranger, no matter how ugly something may seem, beauty is in the eye of the beholder (just ask any woman who's ever agreed to date me! ). I'm sure that 99% of the time (100% if you asked me) this would be a win/win. However, the bottom line is that no one should make a binding change to anyone else's schedule without their expressed approval, contractual exceptions obviously excluded.

I had a deal where the last trip on my hub turning week was a backend DH to the city where I live. I had already spent some of the bank (about $50) on GT for another trip. A training guy called and asked to bump me. For the first time I actually had to think about it as the total loss to me would be about $100 bucks with the bank and per diem loss. Anyway, I knew the guy and said OK . When I checked the jumpseat to ride the same flight home it was full so I had to get Capt's permission from him just to get home. Had there been a change of planes to one with less J/S's I would have ben SOL and SIM (StuckinMemphis). Not sure I would agree to that again..

All anyone is saying, is be careful. I thought I had a slam dunk PDO and the guy shocked me by saying no. If they haven't answered the email, call, but don't assume.

I've actually had someone do a unilateral pdo bump on me for an HNL dh and never bother to see if it was OK. Since I live in Hawaii and that was my DH bank for the month it wasn't OK and it can be a mess trying to get it undone when it's a weekend/night or holiday (or all 3 as it was in this case) if the bumper has already checked in.
They just assumed and wanted a nice paid ride to HNL for some r & r.
So what they've all said ... ask.

Was the offender slapped on the hand?
Don't want any names, just a good story.

At least this guy asked
While in San Juan preparing to fly to MEM for a hubturn to ATL, I read an email from a guy who said he had a "good deal" for me regarding my ATL trip. He didn't say anything else except he would see me in ops when I arrived. Of course I figured he wanted to bump me...cool. Nope. Again, claiming the "good deal" line, he said he had an LAX trip he wanted to trade me for my ATL trip. I stared while waiting, but he never did smile. Only when he went on to tell me his trip paid 7:16 while mine was only 7:00(back when we were guaranteed 7:00 per day, or 3.43-1. By the way, why did we give that up again?), and followed by saying I would make an extra 16 minutes of pay, did I realize he was serious!
Where do we get these guys?

FDD,
I may be mistaken, but I thought if you got PDO bumped, you both get the bank. I thought you just had to put it on your expense comments that you were bumped from the trip.

CBA - Chap. 8, C.2.a.
Deadhead Deviation Banks
a. A pilot shall have a deviation bank established for each bid period. The
value of the deviation bank shall equal the value of the scheduled
deadhead tickets for trips flown during the bid period...

Nope. You only get the bank if you actually fly the trip. Whoever actually operates, gets the D/H money.

For the record, you can bump me anytime up to V1. I'd like to take credit for that quote, but the first time I heard it was from DH, a fairly senior MEM 727 captain. He bids day O&Bs and seems to get several bumps per month by management types.
