Oh come on! Living up there...making all them money! money brings people together! Not apart.

You can get them all the bling bling they want.

Don't know for sure if his family is even up there with him ?

Mine doesn't want to go. And why should they after uprooting to Mecca and getting displaced so soon.

It could be the commute that is killing his family life ...

It could be once a family moves to ANC, its a long, long way from other family (parents, siblings) and friends ...

It could be long cool summer days ...
It could be long freezing winter nights ...

But I am sure there is a whole lot to it ...

If you were in SDF, you certainly could have bid to FE and downgraded to stay at your base. For most they had a choice. Even with the pay cut, the cost of living is so much lower in Ky, the money is close to the same. I moved to ANC to avoid the commute. Those who have difficult wive/husbands, bid down ,stop complaining, and let me move up in the base where I want to live and work.

Buggs,

You can't downgrade unless you are displaced. So, not all could bid FE in SDF, even if they wanted to. Moving to domicile isn't feasible for everyone. While I agree that is a choice that one makes, your comment about difficult spouses, downbid, and stop complaining is out of line. Everyone's situation is different, and it is not that easy just to say move or shut up. I feel for everyone that has to commute to ANC. I hope to never have to do it because I sure as heck won't move there. Chill out on your fellow pilots...

I think a down bid within base is possible under extreme circumstances ...

Many of the last round of displacements are arriving from ONT ... nothing to downbid within base there.

I moved to SDF to avoid the commute ... a lot of good that did.

Moving to ANC is out of the question until we find another buyer for the home we just bought, and thought we had sold !

So your suggestions are easier said than done ... FWIW

Buggs,
1800RVR is correct. UPS followed the contract. Unless displaced, cannot downbid (or turn 65). In any case, we have folks that live in ANC displaced involuntarily to SDF S/O and folks that live in SDF involuntarily displaced to ANC. All according to the contract. This was one of those unplanned events not effectively dealt with in our CBA. I assure you, many wish they could have downbid to stay in lower 48 as the few that live in ANC wish they could get back. When the 767's start arriving, it will provide some relief for some folks to get a better situation, but unfortunately, the 747 legacy fleet displacements, the age 65 law change did put the unplanned hurt on alot of families.

If I understand the bidding system correctly..The 767s will create "vacancies"...which will quickly be filled up by the ultra-senior over-60 folks who are yearning for the front seats?

Although there are nearly 30 A/Cs coming, I'm sure some of us will be able to cash in at some point towards the end of the deliveries.

Did I get it right? The whole UPS vacancies/realignment/displacement shuffling system is still a mystery to me.

Or, they could fill the FO seats off the street without a bid. Then they only have to cover CA upgrades and the seats they vacate. No?
