FDX - Trip Manager?

Forgive my ignorance, but.....
what, exactly, can we use Trip Manager for anyway?
is it just to see the details of a flight itinerary AFTER it's already booked? or can you actually search for fares and book tickets?
I thought the only way to get our Global Travel discount was to call them and book the ticket with one of their agents over the phone.
thanks in advance for the info.

Just one of many tools in trying to maximize the usage of my deviation bank!

I use it for schedules and fares when deciding if I can "afford" to bid a certain deadhead lines. Like the master said, the posted fares today are closer to reality than they were in the past. I don't book last minute stuff with it, but have/will book trips a few weeks out.

I book all my domestic, and most international DH's there. Trips that are booked by corp travel will not show up there, only trips that you book.
You still need to call corp travel to cancel any leg, even if it was booked on trip manager.
I have found that if you choose to book by leg instead of trip more options show up, and sometimes they options are cheaper than if you search by complete trip.

I can think of several times when trip manager has shown a seat that global travel couldn't find. Same with ticket price. As a matter of fact I can think of one time that tripmanager was showing some seats that the NW gate agent said they didn't have. I will trust my skill with a keyboard more than a non interested party's skill with a keyboard every time. I always start with tripmanager.

Not completely true! If it hasn't already been ticketed by Global Travel, you may cancel it on Trip Manager, if it was booked on Trip Manager! You can see in the list of itineraries if its been ticketed already. Sometimes it seems like it gets ticketed right away, sometimes it takes awhile - like a few days!
