Straight from Rick Barr, the top manager of UPS Airline, at a meeting last week at the ANC Marriott with ANC based crew members. There will be no hiring in 2008. No hiring will occur until we manage the displacements and training due to the retirement of the 747-200 fleet at the end of peak 2008, and the age 65 rule. Rick stated we send representatives to hiring seminars to keep track of qualified pilots available for hiring....end of story!!
In 2009 according to Rick Barr the DHL contract may influence hiring in 2009. The contract is not expected to finalized until the end of 2008.

I disagree
"Rick stated we send representatives to hiring seminars to keep track of qualified pilots available for hiring....end of story!!"
Sega,
I think that this is B.S. , don't you? This is a scam that the AirInc. Job Fairs run that says "come to our job fair to find your dream job!" This is a scam because I believe that the airlines are subsidized to be there or are at least given free lodging, food, etc.
Pilots say.. "Wow, UPS is going to be there!!!!" And then they plunk down $175 to Kit Darby's retirement fund. UPS has been to untold many job fairs that they're NOT hiring or even taking resumes.. They come, make their presentation "Yes, we're U.P.S., we have bases in SDF, PHL, RFD, ONT, ANC, we fly the yada, yada........Oh yeah, thanks for coming, but we're not hiring now.." Why are they there?!? It's a scam!!!
I promise you all here on this forum, that if I win the Powerball (you know, the BIG powerball), I will go to all these job fairs and stand out front (with several members of the posse of, of course), and hand out $175 to any pilot who will turn around and not attend. Of course, I will also provide the hiring and interview information (which should be free), for FREE! How many other careers PAY to go to their job fairs?
O.K., I'm getting off the soapbox.......... Carry on, everyone.
