New HKG F/O Posting out Today

However, I don't hang out in food courts. Maybe you're right, and those guys who do all did vote yes.

I would say it depends on your definition of "it". When you were sitting in front of your ACP this year, discussing the objectives you planned on achieving for the year, and where and how you could proactively cut costs, what was the stock option potential you hoped to achieve? And, what is the next position you are planning on interviewing for when a vacancy occurs in it? You're fully aware that success in previously stated objectives will certainly be an asset during the interview.
Different perspective, and goals. I personally think "they" see "it" very well.

I think those are the guys that I was referring to. I once was proud to be a MEM guy who refused to go to the food court.

Just had ground school and Capt "O" came over and addressed some of the current concerns.
Next paragraph is what I took from O's presentation
Yes, there are still slots open at HKG. No, the company has no plans to hire into them in the near future. The need for HKG to be fully staffed is still quite aways into the future. As the future comes closer, not sure yet how he's going to manage the staffing.

My best guess is that if we have a strong peak and the economy does better than expected in 09.....that FedEx will be behind the manpower curve again and hiring everyone we can get our hands on fall of 09
The dramatic increase in the price of fuel along with the minimal growth in the economy caught the FedEx economic department by surprise. Thus, the accelerated retirement of the DC10 and 727 and terminating some of our Airbus leases and delaying acquisition of some others.
If you follow the company's investment reports, and the FY08 one was just published for the upcoming shareholders meeting at the Peabody. Then you can see that FY08 wasn't as good as we thought it was going to be in FY07....and that our package volume isn't where we thought it would be.....and as the economy continues to slow, the econ guessers are fearful that FY09 isn't going to be as good as FY08 was so.....play defense.
My understanding of the historical hiring pace of FedEx is that it's all throttle or all brakes. But, the nice thing is that when the brakes slam on--furlough is not the first solution that comes to mind, or even the second. (it is for the beancounters though, simple math for them, they read about the pax carriers putting guys on the street and they think it's a great idea)

8 Airbii in Victorville, and a few more here and there.
Some of the new Airbii we bought will be leased out.
The good news - there was an MD10 all taped up in LAX at the maintenance base for about the last 6 months. They just dragged it into the hangar to start its C check.

As far as the fuel non-sense goes, in the 11 we are having potable water drained to levels where the coffee maker wont work ( saving maybe, on a good day 10-15 lbs of gas over 8hrs). On the same legs I have consistently had a T/O CG forward of 23. If the load was properly planned and provided a T/O CG of say 28 or greater (up to to 31) we would save 6-8k of gas (not including the gas you didn't have to load due to the efficient CG). So......we are picking weeds and ignoring the Redwood....so to speak. My question is why? It's not hard to load and A/C for best CG. Food for thought........PS. 8k per leg equates to 45 hrs of continuous APU usage. What say you Bob?
