I'm confused on this "purple nuggets screwed up the seniority" debate. Wasn't there a bid just prior to the the purple nugget program that had ANC F/O positions going unfilled? Meaning that any pilot on the seniority list, including the most junior 727FE, could have held ANC if they wanted to?

Likewise, if the HKG seats go unfilled, and have to be manned with newhires, are there going to be people on this board a year from now *****ing that the "purple eggrolls" came in and screwed up the seniority system?

Unless you bid the unfilled vacancy now, you lose the right to ***** about it later...

And no, I am not a nugget

The reality is crappy junior lines and an infamous VTO scheduler for ANC "Screwed up the seniority system" and made ANC go so junior the company had to hire off the street to fill it. Perhaps a lack of a COLA as well. On the contrary, the seniority system was operating just as it should. Don't be fooled by any CP Jedi mind tricks.

Sure the nuggets are "lucky". But they wouldn't have been hired if they weren't needed. I think we are at a draw here.

BTW, there are no excuses for doing DPs. NONE. We already have lots pairings that should be DPs but aren't because we keep flying them. I'd rather not have any more.
Nobody is faulting anyone. The problem is with the company trying to do everything on the cheap and ALPA allowing it. The Purple Nugget Program came out because the company will not pay a bonus or a management move package to ANC. If they did people would flock up here(including senior people). The HKG situation would not exist if the company would pony up the money for what it costs to live there. It is as simple as that. And yes there is no excuse to fly DP's and yes our schedule sucks in ANC.

Being excessed somewhere does not constitute "flocking". Well maybe it does in the context of , "the patients in the diarrhea ward flocked to toilet".

However, it is a great way for a new guy to make a lot of money, along with him choosing to fly disputed pairings when nobody else is...

FR8Hauler,

Thanks for taking care of the junior guys and gals. You are one of the good ones.

JL and others work hard to put twisted logic out there just to get it repeated until we all think it's gospel. The blame game for the failed excess bids is in full swing and I'm all for stamping it out when I can. Our declared pilot manning problems can't possibly be due to any management missteps. Must be due to ALPA or greedy pilots. I don't subscribe to either of those popular management held theories. The subtle intent is to favor solutions to our problems that don't reward pilots because this mess is "their fault".

Thanks for helping to make this a better place.

We will all have a group hug at Fenwicks in Wan Chai next time we are there! There is plenty of blame to be spread around. Our apathetic pilot group, ALPA who does not support the majority of us even when they ask us what we think and the company who does their job and pays for the lowest bidder. Still a pretty damn good job though!

THANK YOU. I'm glad others feel this way.

I still can't get over his "if you could hold captain for the last two years and haven't upgraded you are part of the problem blah blah blah" rant to FOs.

I forwarded that email to every friend I have at other US airlines and they couldn't believe that's how we get spoken to around here.
