I've just about had enough of the animosity directed at the "Purple Nuggets". First of all, this name is an absolute insult. And I take great offense to being call that. It implies we are somehow inferior aviators to the rest of you. Isn't that what the Navy calls someone who is so green that they are not quite as good as the rest of the seasoned aviators. I challenge you to find a single Nugget who is so green as to not be considered as qualified as the rest of you all.
Second, we were only hired after the MOAB and the slots went unfilled. This in no way screws up the seniority system. It is basically; me bidding at 100% and someone else bidding at 50%. You are telling me because I bid at 100% and get the position over someone who bid at 50%, I screwed up the seniority system.
Lighten up, zoomie. You might get yourself teabagged on a layover.

BTW, get used to some ACPs giving you a skewed take on things.
They ignore the reality of really stinking lines at the bottom of the bid pack (after all, they don't have to fly them) then berate us for not upgrading. Makes me go Hmmmmm.
Here's another one. Go ask LK about accepted fares. You'll walk away dumber after the conversation.

This is true. We will have another junior manned aircraft. I hope ALPA is raising hell about this. A-380 pay for the 777 should be a given, it was already negotiated and should not even be a question. Just like the purple nugget program screwed up the senority system, so will not paying the 777 a premium.

MD10PLT, The purple nugget program was managements easy out, short term fix, to fill the ANC F/O positions. If management would have done the right thing and made international override $25 for CAPT's and $20 for F/O's, the positions would have been filled with crew members from the existing seniority list. You would have then been hired into the back of the 727. Just my humble opinion of course.

Hey Cargo Pirate, First, IMHO there is no animosity towards Purple Nuggets among the vast majority of the crew force. You filled a position that was offered to you because it was available i.e. no one on the seniority list bid it. You belong here as much as the Dirty Thirty.
Secondly, the term nugget in the Navy only means new guy, nothing else. Believe me, many a nugget showed up on the ship and in short order, performed better than the majority of the seasoned aviators, both in mission performance and "on the ball". And no, I was not one of them, just an embarrassed observer.

Dude ... take a chill pill. Obviously your wife forgot to give you your medication this morning?
As a Memphis Captain, I haven't had much of a chance to fly with many "Purple Nuggets" yet, but I can tell you there isn't much "animosity" being directed from me. I've received (and continue receive) REALLY great support from the MEM f/o's. If the PN's are as good as they are (as has been stated here earlier, you folk were hand picked from the pool!) I'm sure that you will receive ALL the R-E-S-P-E-C-T (in my best Tina Turner imitation) that you EARN.
As a Navy retiree, i can tell you there's not much disrespect intended by the nugget term. Get over it and fly safe ..
Regards,
Mark
