New HKG F/O Posting out Today

Very noble of you. I wish we had more with the same attitude.
That being said, I have doubts how many are going to volunteer to give up an extra 15 days that month for zero pay. Well, at least they get a hotel room to sit around in on their "off" days.

Ya. And have you guys been in the hotel they've been using a lot lately on the HKG layovers, the RENAISSANCE KOWLOON?
The room is so small you actually have to "make" space to put your suitcase some place out of the way.
Would love to spend two weeks in that closet...

Capt OR spoke at the training bldg this week. I paraphrase:
They want to fill HKG with the bids. They won't hire to fill it. Last option he would consider is voluntary STV; doesn't want to do involuntary STV.
Oct bid planned for 777. Hopes to have pay rates resolved before it comes out, but believes there will be some that will bid it regardless of rate.
A-300 domicile to Paris possibly in the near future. MD to HKG later possibly.

D-11 or airbus and put yourself through training "just because". We probably do have a few people this dumb out there.

A guy with his 25 in could bid it, get 1000 in type, retire and go fly in some other corner of the world. He'd get market rate for a WB captain plus his pension. And he'd do something besides MEM-Guangzhao. More than a few guys are thinking about this.....

Several thoughts ...
- This reminds me of those guys that still log each of their legs in a logbook ... I always assumed they were building time to get a real airline job???
- My union says the 777 is a replacement for the A380 and should pay A380 pay. I believe everything my union says, so I'm not sure why we are in 777 pay negotiations?
- And ... I encourage the ND's to take their valuable skills elsewhere instead to hurting the careers of the junior guys below them (If they really NEED to work past 60!*?)

They're not dumb. 777 is the most marketable type out there.

Once you're retirement elgibile you gotta look at decisions based on "marginal pay".
(...in other words, ask yourself "Well how much do they have to pay me if I just sleep in today?)
For those in the know, how much "notice" do you have to give FDX that you're retiring?
I've heard this is one area that mgmt is very concerned about now that the regulated age was raised to 65, while the no-penalty, retirement age remains 60 in our contract.
I believe mgmt is concerned they will not be able to predict as accurately when pilots will retire.
(...OK, I'll lead turn the easy comeback --- "That's easy --- it's 65!")

30 days. And you can rescind the retirement. Its a MESS for the guy trying to predict future manning.
We did some Wilson surveys a while back, and you might see these data points in a future message line or block letter. Bottom line is when asked when you YOU plan on retiring, the average answer was somewhere around 61.5. When you asked when do you think your PEERS will retire, the number was around 62-63. My exact numbers are off but the point is while things could change tomorrow, more guys may be retiring sooner than we as a collective think. I guess time will tell...

Remember... The left seat will be filled no matter what. Just like HKG. I bet if they came up with a rate between the NB and WB rates that the left seat would be filled. Let's be realistic.
