FedEx hub project gets new shot of federal money

JOURNAL STAFF AND WIRE REPORT

Published: September 16, 2008

WASHINGTON -- The FedEx Corp. cargo-hub project at Piedmont Triad International Airport will get more than $5 million in federal financing for construction work, the office of U.S. Rep. Howard Coble, R-6th, said yesterday.

Coble said that the Federal Transit Administration will provide the airport with nearly $4.5 million for the extension of Taxiway D that serves regular air traffic.

The money will be used for Phase One of the construction project.

The Federal Aviation Administration will provide the airport with $1.1 million for costs directly associated with construction of the cargo hub.

The money will be used to build the new runway and associated taxiways, and to buy land.
