New UPS Hiring Rumor

Nope, not the van driver but a crew member that talked to the ex-hiring folks. It would have a stronger chance of being true if it were the driver, but it takes a while for the overseas drivers to catch up on things,

Freight Dog - any chance you could make a few phone calls to the HR department to get the latest scoop?

Not much hiring. Look at domestic loads and how they are decreasing and then look at the statment last week that international growth is starting to slow. With oil and the US domestic economy the way it is, aisa and the rest of the world will soon follow the US slowdown and vice versa. It's been that way for the last 20 years. I think this DHL deal will maybe take in the poolies, but will save UPS from having to furlough. Remember it takes about three qts in the business world to feel the effects on price increases. We will see in 2009 that UPS vol is down in all sectors. For the bottom couple hundred this DHL is a life saver, cross your fingers. Not doom and gloom just look around and save your pennies. Also, if you talk to manpower planning they they we are 80 fat, while the union says 200 short. So the truth lies somewhere in the middle. It seems that with the 98 over 65 guys who have come back and the retirement of four 8's in the last 5 months along with the US/world economy we might just be even. You know that the boys in ATL are running the numbers about this fuel thing and estimating how much vol will fall. That being said I think we will be lucky to see more then the poolies come on board. Hope I'm wrong, but I have a bad feeling about what's in store for all of us next year.
I can't believe you used the F word. Have you seen how much open time is out there? We are picking up loads of JAs and OT. If the company issued a furlough JA and OT would stop or nearly stop and we would be 20% understaffed immediately. Enjoy the fact that you have the best Part 121 job out there. UPS is not an airline and won't furlough like the patheticly managed pax carriers. We all can complain all we want about the shortcomings of UPS management. But the fact remains is that we promote from within and UPS mgt has a sense of ownership unlike any other corporate culture out there. My point is they will not slash and burn and/or gut the company like the pax carriers have. I'll give you a month's pay if we furlough!
