Question FDX - Checked baggage fees and Travel bank

What is the final verdict on your checked baggage fees being covered by the company? As many of you know who have to deadhead internationally, you have a large bag since you are on the road for 2 weeks at a time. So in the next 4 weeks, I fly on Continental, NWA, Lufthansa, and American. I have not looked at all their policies but am sure that at some point they will try and charge me for checking my bag.

I will be putting it on the company card but am I going to have to fight those accounting ladies to get the money back? I seem to remember an email from the union saying "that we were looking into it." Anyone have a status update?

As far as AA and NW, our ticket class is exempt from the $15 - 1st bag and $25 - 2nd bag fees.

Other than that, section 5.A.7 covers your situation.
"The Company shall reimburse a pilot for authorized reasonable
expenses not covered by Section 5.A.3. through A.6. (e.g.,
authorized transportation, non contract hotels, reasonable
excess baggage charges
in regards to an international
commercial fl ight), incurred while on a trip or on Company
business away from his base."

No reply from the union yet to my knowledge.

5.A.7. in the contract appears to specifically cover this. 'reasonable excess baggage charges' is specifically listed as reimbursable for an international flight. Good luck -

Thanks guys! I couldn't find that anywhere in the contract! I'll reference that if I have any trouble with the expense report bean counters!
My worry was that the company would buy you a ticket on AA for example that has an allowable expense of 200 dollars say from MEM to DFW. Of course the actual ticket they purchased was 300 dollars (since I haven't had an actual fare match an allowed fare in over 2 months). And now we have yet another receipt to keep track of for the baggage fees or they will ding you for that. Also if you deviate you are getting dinged even more than before.

Also, at least at AA, if you are firsts class, or full fare, you don't pay.

How about from the company? They should be able to tell you right now.

That's who the union will ask to get the answer.

Definately reimbursable on SCHEDULED deadheads. Shouldn't be an issue if you have bank money. Otherwise, the bean counters can be a real pain in the arse!
