69 excess positions with 47 available positions; what happens to the 22 leftovers pilots?

Looks like the bulk of this is stacked to be a displacement. Referencing the bid summary indicates there should be secondary displacements ad nauseum.

Yep, gonna get ugly for sure. Let's have half our pilots in training while at the same time adding more lift.... YEAH, that makes sense.

Looks like your management is about the same as ours. Maybe if we put them both together................ 1 person out of the entire gaggle could come up with a correct solution............

Please excuse my ignorance on this topic. If UPS is planning on increased flying by the end of the year, why on earth are they creating so many training events? Is it a case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing? I take it is a good sign that there were no displacements of the DC-8, but are the displacements off the classic a bad sign? Does this still leave some folks on the classic? Why are they not using the remaining classics longer to help with the lift? I thought there was a greater shortage of DC-8 FEs and ANC FOs.

Sorry if this sounds like 20 questions, but for me, the vacancy/displacement system at UPS is quite confusing, just trying to gain a better understanding.

SKMarz,
Mngmt cannot claim to be in an emergency staffing situation unless they first create one. <LOL> Would be funnier if it wasn't so true...

It is also important to understand that we will not staff on planned need. We will only staff after the need exists.

I trust UPS knows what they are doing when letting the last few classics go, and there is no way not to have the displacement dance when you retire an aircraft.

After the displacements, the 30 ANC FO vacancies will be filled, and about 35-39 FE's will be added to the DC8 (about 27 from FO to FE downgrades, as a result of the displacement, and up to 12 more from 747 FE transitions). That will fill DC8 FE classes through January. A DC8 check airman last week told me that UPS is looking at another DC8 sim to help out with the training.

I'm hoping the rumors of an additional 4 MD11's and up to 9 DC8's coming out of storage will come to fruition. That is our best chance for more lift that could occur by this fall, I think.

It seems like if they were serious about bring some -8s back, they would delay this bid. People will displace to ANC when in a few months they could move back. If there is a potential to add planes, then holding off seems to make more sense... but I agree that with the classic parking, there is no way to avoid displacements.
