UPS Realignment Bid 08-103/Dispacement 08-202 Bid is open

One the few upsides of this cluster-copulation is that there will be so many in needless/pointless training that the possibility of furlough is diminished even further (assuming logic has anything to do with it before you comment). That, combined with the possibility of DHL volume bodes well for the bottom of the list other than the multiple moves, family disruption, training center induced brain melt and dose of Kentucky Fried Blues that many will have to endure.

I'm not so sure I see what is so messed up about this. They need FO's in ANC so they get them. I assume that they need dc8fe's, they will get some. As for the 747 classics, what are they supposed to do, keep people in those spots after the planes have left the property? Should the classics remain, can't they cancel the bid?

Probation Guys
Once again to show my complete ignorance on vacancy/realign...
Does this mean that these new hires on the DC-8 panel that were forced there while on probation last time can now bid over to ANC 744 and ANC MD FO slots? (I'm assuming those 2 FO lists are most junior in the company.)
And what about those FEs STILL on probation as of 30 Jun? Do they NOT get to bid out of FE due to that probationary status?

767,
The biggest rub for some of us is the notion that in a time of growth and expansion, we are seeing a net LOSS of 22 Captains. With 747-400s & 767s on order and 8s coming out of long term storage, why not just start adding to those fleets now. A short term lack of productivity but offset by fewer training events. Plus the added benefit of improved employee morale, awe shucks what am I thinking... Not the way it works here, demote 22 captains to F/O and watch them squirm, that's a lot more fun.

We are NOT growing yet. The DHL deal is NOT signed and UPS will not staff for it until it IS and they have had time to digest it's contents. I seriously doubt the number of DC-8s that will be brought out of the desert. The best we can probably hope for regarding the DC-8 is for UPS to not retire the ones that are still in active service.

I disagree with your statement, but who knows. Remember the union is allowing the company to gradually phase in the flying with a transition period of approximately 2 years. I believe we'll see alot of new flying once the deal is granted. Standby for some good news from Boeing (hopefully sometime this year).
I think you fail to realize just how much extra capacity UPS has to absorb the DHL volume and just how little air volume that will be. DHL currently flies a good amount of ground volume because their jets are fairly empty and have the space and that they don't have a well established ground system.

If there are others still on probation 30 June, I think that the contract is clear. Their probationary asses belong to the needs of the company.
