Jumpseating has always been and will always be captain's discretion. But if Alaska Airlines will cramp 2 offline guys into their 737 cockpit for a ride up to ANC. I expect our own guys to do the same, at the very least!

The last two encounters I have had with regards to this issue were from 2 captains who are amazingly enough..........commuters themselves!!

I wish there was a 'no-commute allowed' list shared by all the airlines - sounds like they belong on that list.

Thanks ViktorBravo - next time a captain is trying to bump me off I'll say ...but "ViktorBravo" said it'd be ok?

You got it Godfather! Maybe you can arrange for some senior fellas 'early' a.k.a. at 60 retirement? You know, leave or else?

The irony is that there are numerous crewmembers that would prefer no matrix, which would equate to no P7's because every seat would be filled with a P3!

... with 2 or 3 reserves jammed into 757s and DC8s for multiple legs.

Or try the 8+ hour crossing in a 767 with 2 P3s occuping the "crew rest facility".

The MATRIX is definitely a double-edged sword !

I wasn't here for the negotiations that brought about the Matrix, or the surrounding "issues" ... but I understand what the IPA was/is trying to accomplish through its presence.

FWIW ...

The matrix restricts the company on how many P3s they put on..It doesnt say anything about leaving P7s behind when there are open seats.

Dude...you are spot on

The matrix doesnt say to kick off/refuse pri 7s seats that they have signed up for...but there are Captains out there doing just that. I know of situations where the Cap was only going to take the 3 pri 3's and leave the 2 pri 7's(and 2 open seats) behind..

Sadly the cap can do whatever he wants, but with anc jumpseats at a premium, i hope at some point the IPA steps in w/ a sanity check about screwing your brothers..

That would be me.<g>
Capts don't leave P-3's behind now, but leave P-7's, Yep, we are better off with the Matrix. Capts delegating authority to a matrix. I'm with it <ng>
