As you mentioned previously, when we were excessed out of Subic you were senior enough to hold, let’s say, DC10 Capt. If it’s what you wanted why would you have anything else on your standing bid, just as the number one person in any seat position need only put one line on his/her monthly bid. As you also mentioned, the settlement changed the CBA in para B3

Exercise of a pilot’s seniority under Section 24.E.4. shall be limited to the pilot’s standing bid for each posting specified in paragraph B.2. above, as applied to the primary and secondary vacancy awards for each such posting

The settlement changed other things as well, for example as browngirlsyum has pointed out, excessed/cancelled types have been allowed to create an excess at an FDA if it was in their standing bid and they were in an excess status when their award was cancelled (not many). Like you say yourself Underdog, most at FDX won’t even follow this conversation because it doesn’t affect them. I was originally posting to point out that some were taking one sentence of the settlement out of context. Just trying to keep the misinformation to a minimum for those who want to try to follow this train wreck.

Cheers
Gypsy, I just didn't want to go into convoluted explanations. What you say is true. Unlike those that say the settlement agreement didn't change anything, rather it solidified/eternalized/etc., what was already in place. Then why did we need it? Surely, there are a group of folks who are now going to HKG that couldn't previously. Good on them. It affected others a little differently. I was being a tad sarcastic in my explanation that my excess was DC-10 and not Subic related. Actually, that was in fact the company answer. The union attorney and DT explained as you explained.

I really wanted to dispel the apparent myth that many have in thinking that somehow the individual will be in trouble if they are awarded HKG and elect not to sign the agreement. I also wanted to explain that under the current situation there are a whole lot of folks elgible for passover pay depending on how they bid. I say this because more than a handful of soon to be excessed 727 Captains and MD F/O's didn't know what I was talking about when the subject was brought up in conversation. They stated, as many have, you can't excess into an FDA, if that creates an excess at the FDA. Well yes, but as many have so eloquently pointed out and some have never realized, they shall be elgible for passover pay.

Finally, I wanted to acknowledge there are potential consequences of bidding HKG. I feel, for most, the gains far outweigh any negative impacts. But that is just one schmucks opinion. If you can live with a two year freeze, then one can always fall back on not signing the agreement. Doing this is the individuals choice and right under our CBA and LOA(both the enhanced version and the original last best final offer). Of course, no telling how future "settlement agreements" might alter things. D'oh, ...I did it again.

Underdog,

Great couple of posts. You provded information that should be available to all but isn't. How did you manage to do it without telling us how to bid?

All A300 FOs should bid HKG Capt! It sounds like a perfect scheme to me. Just think of all that Capt passover pay you can spend!

Hey, what about bidding the FDA refusing to sign the Agreement and getting frozen in your previous position for 2 years!!

I bet after this excess bid, that they open some seats in HKG Capt to weed out the passover.

Yep. Putting 10 more captains over there would probably eliminate a lot of guys bidding passover.

Hard to beat the house at any damn card game. On the other hand--if you are feeling adventurous....
