Default FDX-Vacation Question

Could one of you who is knowledgeable about vacation issues help me with a question?

If I bid a line in July that has carryover and then with my July vacation I expand it to knock out that carryover trip, does the carryover "footprint" have any effect on my bidding in August? In other words, could I have/fly a trip that starts on the first day of the August bid month that would obviously overlap the footprint of the carryover trip that went away due to the vacation expansion in the previous month?

I sent this question to my planner and of course got the auto-reply: out of office (until the bids close).

Thanks in advance.

I am 99.99% sure that the footprint of the carryover days in AUG will create a conflict with days in the AUG bid month. It is essentially a ghost footprint as if it was still on your line.

Thanks. I was afraid that might be the case.

Sorry to disagree but I think the only inviolate days (cannot work) are the actual vacation period days...7 day period, 7 days. Any trip dropped either for actual conflict or bank expansion go away, including carryover. Trip footprint doesn't matter for vacation, its mainly for sick bank usage. Please confirm this with your planner or contract enforcement, if you can get an answer.

Well, since we now have two opposing answers, I'll make sure I check with a planner or the Union. I'll report back. If someone finds a section of the CBA that gives the answer, please post here.

Thanks,

Been awhile, but I had some of those "ghost" carry over days from a c/o trip in Jul 03 to Aug 03 knock out a trip from my Aug 03 line, ALL of the VAC days were in Jul and no buffers were involved. But you are wise to go to the planners. If he/she doesn't answer the phone, they will be quick to respond (based on my experience).

Of course, report back here with the gospel!

These guys are all wrong, MD11Fr8Dog leading the way as usual. The only days you cannot pick up a trip is the foot print of you acutual vacation (where the little red line that says VAC sits). I'm doing it this month. I am drinking right now and there is a .001% chance I'm wrong, but I don't think so.
Now where is the bottle? I'm on vacation.

Hey even if you keep the two buffers you can pick up trips on those days too. Any where your little red VAC line does not show up.
still can't find the bottle.

True.. I have done this before, however, I think the question has more to do with bidding/not open time and how that may conflict (good question BTW)!?
